ND555 firmware update to 3.4.0, sound quality

This is sounding nicely balanced on my NDX2/XPSDR.

I used the standard cd version, should perhaps upgrade as the 192 is acceptable on Qobuz.

Network is fine and has been for many years ubiquity router , switch which feeds Cisco 2960 which Atom is on. Network has no effect in system I already have gone through this and posted my findings. No smps in the same as hifi and it’s using a Russ Andrews power block, I have even tried unplugging other items that are in it and spms from other outlets. No difference. If it did I would get rid of the Atom straight away.

On the 192 version on Qobuz The cymbals on Passion Dance I felt were quite realistic.prominent but not in a negative way

Real McCoy is an album from 1967. It must sound so much better on lp…just to say.

I just realised I have that album. It’s part of the MQS Blue Note 75th Anniversary Collection (PCM 24 bits / 192 kHz).

Just arrived from the climbing gym :person_climbing:
Hard day training

I’ll give it try tomorrow.

Just listened to 2 tracks. Brilliant performance. The album seems nice!
Considering it’s a +50 years old album, I’m surprised by the quality of the recording.

The snare drum and the cymbals sound ok. No sibilance noticed.

It is interesting to listen to such an old recording. The sound engineer work is a bit old fashioned  Saxophone on the left chanel, piano and bass in the middle and drums on the right channel.

After my last firmware I have problems starting to play,it’s start to play after a long while at least a 1 minute later ,not on each album but on some of them …has anybody experience this problem? Is there anything I can do to fix…need help, It upsets

Have you tried turning the power off and powering back up, to force a reboot.

Experienced the same thing with Dac V1 which was (are) a fabulous machine with 1.6 and then went bonkers with 1.16 - the DSD update. All the soul was completely gone. but more ”clean”.

So I used it with old FW. And now I got a preloved NDX instead, so no more Firmware surprises for me !

Why power? It’s my streaming issue, do you mean ps555?

Its a computer, they get glitches. Yes just power your Ps 555 and it will reboot and go thru the wavy pink, purple screen. Hope it works.

which one? the digital ps555 I have 2x555 or both of them

Both, you need no power on the nd 555…leave for a few minutes, you should then get a purple wavy screen as it reboots, its a computer basically. If that does not work, its back to forum or an email to Naim.

You can carry the streamer to an hospital. It may help Meni.

:joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:

Thanks so much Robert. One of the most useful posts I’ve experienced. I’ve set server mode on and standby to never. DEFINITELY seems to have improved things. I’ve had 2 beers and 2 Whiskies so my judgement might well be impaired, so better check again tomorrow, but Jeff’s ‘ Cause we’ve ended as lovers’ is now sounding once again like the work of a genius inspired on the night. big thank you…

Am aware that this album sounds phenomenal on a tin can and a string, so will check again in the morning!
