Having server off works better for me
I have seen now the opposite remarks on server on or off. What does the setting do in the first place and what’s the preferred setting for this parameter ?
All of the current range of streamers have a version of Naim’s UPnP server loaded on them. It can serve files only from drives attached to the USB inputs. It’s this server that you are turning on and off. There will be a small increase in power consumption. On the Unitis, you can hear the hum of the internal transformer when server mode is on, even when in standby mode, as the server needs to remain discoverable to other devices. One might therefore guess that keeping it turned off would be best, but as you say, some seem to have said otherwise.
Was this using NAS for music?
I’ve not tried it myself as default was ‘on’, but I will also try later.
DB.
The Colloms article also prompted me to check the position of the earth switch and found it makes a dramatic difference which way it’s set. I’m much preferring it set to chassis, which is not the way I had it set to date and (I believe) ‘chassis’ is not the way that’s recommended if, like me, you have a phono stage also connected to the preamp Aux2 socket. Hmm…
Well, sort of: a Roon Nucleus+
AFAIK, it’s not having a phono stage in itself that dictates the signal ground, but it might be dictated the turntable that’s attached to it. My personal advice remains the same either way, go with the position that sounds best.
