ND5XS2 Discontinued

I find the level of anger, hostility and defensiveness on this thread to be concerning. Thanks @Richard.Dane for defusing or trying to.

Absolutely JB

I am certain that the Atoms etc are extremely good otherwise Naim wouldn’t have made them

I’m just a bit concerned that Naim, at the moment, have no mid range units like the Naits etc

I wouldn’t worry too much about the ND5XS2 streamer being discontinued.

If their NC100 series materialize, there will be a matching streamer, no doubt.

If Naim release new kit, I guess its on this year upcoming hifi show, Brighton, Vienna or Warsaw.

I agree current Naim product range seem a bit confusing. Recently a few of their high selling boxes disappear without instant new models announced.

Meanwhile you could buy any cheap Wiim or similar or pay for a s/h NDX2.

As I say, I think there were a number of outside factors that meant Naim had to make the decision to cease production on a number of things (Supernait, XS kit) rather earlier than originally planned. After all, when something is selling well, you don’t stop making it unless there’s a reason you have to.

But the poor lady (AM) didn’t understand irony (like a lot of Americans). The song should have been called ‘Unfortunate’.

She’s quite amusing on the subject now. I saw an interview where she had a very tired look on her face as she resignedly described how many hundreds of people had told her, and were still telling her, that she hadn’t used examples of irony.

British humor, sarcasm, irony whatever can be great fun (if its understandable) sometime even the Brits don’t follow, me guess.

If you don’t like Atom HE, why would you want to use an ND5 XS2?

In my opinion, you’d be better off trying a pre-owned Naim DAC-V1.

The streaming platform Naim uses in its gear is too weak, and there are no signs of improvement. Much cheaper competitors offer significantly better software quality.

Goodness me where did you figure that one out

Weird statement :kissing_face_with_smiling_eyes:

He had problems on his home network with a Naim streamer and now has a thought in his mind that Naim streamers are problematic.

I’ve owned the ND5XS2, NDX2, ND555, and NSS333. I’ve never had an issue streaming with any of them.

Correct. The same issues survived two or three network setups, and are frequently reported by other guys, if you look carefully.

The same time all devices, but Naim, worked fine without any single glitch.

The goal of the OP is to upgrade the source. The best is to buy a second hand Naim dac ( Ndac), to connect to the existing streamer. It will sound better vs an Nd5xs2 and will be cheaper to buy ( 1k).

You can check the forum. There are loads of complaints.
