I’d prefer to but have a problem in principle paying €4500 for a power supply.
That makes no sense at all. It’s what it achieves that matters. I have a 555DR on my 272 and the supply costs nearly double that of the 272 itself. I think of it as a £10,000 streaming preamp rather than a £3,500 streaming preamp with a £6,500 power supply.
Complete false economy in my experience of trying one on my old 272. Totally dismantled the music.

All fair comments but I see no justification for the cost despite what it may achieve. I may see if I can source a second hand one if and when I go there. Interesting re your experience Graeme, I’ll keep it in mind.
Could you clarify that Graeme? If I recall it was the non DR that you were not happy with. I use the DR and it absolutely does not dismantle anything, other than one’s wallet.
I think he was referring to the furry version
I’m easily discombobulated!! Thanks for clarifying.
If funds not an issue why not go the whole hog (again)?
555psdr is expensive but the addition to SQ is well worth it!
You are not alone HH, as a former 272/XPSDR owner, I clearly remember Graemh talking about adding a non DR 555 to his 272. I was surprised when he did not like the result, and ended up liking the Xpsdr more. What he did NOT make clear, was that the 555 was a cuddly toy version.
That may explain it. I thought he had a proper one.
…take one home for a week or so and your resistance will disappear.
IIRC when Graeme flogged his 555DR he listed on a thread that he had something like cuddly toy, xpsdr, ps555, and 555dr, and he rated each of them in relative terms.
To clarify. I first tried pudsey, then 555PS, then XPSDR, then 555PSDR on 272 before upgrading to NDX2/282/HCDR.

All the right supplies but in a slightly different order per above.

I have no idea what pudsey means Graemh, but thanks for sort of clarifying.
It’s a UK charity , sorry.
