Anyone compared or moved from NDS+555PSDR to NSS 333? Thoughts?
@Blackbird I would be interested as well.
Well, a few months ago I ad to take my NDS and Burndies to my dealer, as it wasnāt working. Turned out that when I and one of my sons-in-law had ābrokenā the lead connectors at both ends⦠sigh. So, off off they went to Naim for repair.
When they came back, I listened to NDX2 and NSS 333 (without external power supply). I had a slight preference for the NSS, which from memory seemed to me to almost on a par to my NDS/555PSDR. So, I bought the ex-demo NSS and Legacy Burndies.
So now I have NSS, 555PS, NAC552, 552PS, NAP300, Naim NSats (unable to have bigger speakers as room very small. All ābitsā are DR)
Son-in law is having the NDS + XPS2DR as replacement for his NDX.
Of course, YMMV.
I bet the NSS333 with the 555PS sounds fantastic.
Well, it does. I did think about getting the 500 series streamer, but SWMBO vetoed it. Probably was correct, as I now use hearing aids optimised for music, but find that I have to take them out if I go to a live event or crank up the volume on my system - they distort then (sigh). I really got them so that my other half can tell me off more easily! ![]()

Do you have any other daughters?
To be clear I love my wife very very much and this would be just a temporary arrangement.
Hi love. No nothing. Yes, be there in a secā¦
Must go ![]()
Iām afraid that I only have two daughters - both married with children. I tend to ārecycleā my hifi gear to my relatives, if I donāt trade it in. So, sorry, youāre out of luck! ![]()
Iām bit surprised not more people have moved from NDS to 333? Or all went to ND555?
You can get that distortion problem fixed if you go back to the audiologist that fitted them and ask him/her to increase the MPO limit on both ears. You probably need to have another 6dB to give you headroom to avoid the aids clipping.
It would take the audiologist only a couple or so minutes to do it, so they shouldnāt charge.
Sorry to take so long to reply (life got in the way)
I use rather expensive Coselgi hearing aids (prescribed by Boots The Chemist). I mentioned the problem to the audiologist there at my annual checkup. Apparently the ones I have start messing about with the frequency response when it gets loud. To be honest, itās no big deal to take them out if they distort the sound. My hearing loss is not very great, but the aids are nice when there are multiple people talking, and as my left ear is worse than my right, I can now hear what my (long-suffering) wife is saying to me whilst I am driving ⦠not sure thatās a good thing ![]()
Yes all hearing aids do this. Nevertheless they shouldnāt sound distorted and almost certainly the reason they sound distorted on loud noises is because they are clipping. The clipping point is easily adjustable by the audiologist (as I said itās called MPO). Hearing aids are always adjusted conservatively, so this can safely be altered if there is a reason. But whether you want to bother is up to you of course.
Or from ND555.

@Blackbird Why? You need demo before!
Remember - nds vs nd555⦠and my result ![]()

Nice! It does look really, really good in your picture. I love the new classic styling.
Interested that you prefer the 333 with the c-stream only. I recently removed my switch and expensive ethernet and power cables that were feeding it and replaced them with a c-stream direct from the router. The difference is negligible. Iāve already sold the ethernet cable (nearly recouping what I paid for it) and the switch and power cable will hopefully follow shortly. Itās massively simplified my setup and reduced all the cables needing dressing.
Havenāt evaluated cables too much for now. I use c stream and Ansuz to easy switch between nds and nss333 ![]()
Might get myself a PN switch to evaluate in this new setup. I think it would match nss333 and Nait 50 very good.
My reflections are that the improvements from the expensive ethernet cables and switches are so incremental they do but justify the high prices, or indeed the extra complexity/number of boxes in a system.
Which one sounds fuller and more textured?
