Network Acoustics Tempus Switch

Just throwing this out there. Has anyone heard or own the NA Tempus Switch ?

Because I’ll be streaming a LOT more from QOBUZ in the future. Currently using my SSD from my Antipodes K41 for my music, but I’ve not purchased or ripped a CD for 12 m now TBH.

I’m curious to see what people think of it, I’ve maxed out my source and DAC and preamp, well my whole system is where I’m happy with now.

Now I am just adding my final touches so to speak to finish up.

Apologies, I didn’t see an already active Switch thread.

Please delete this and add my query to that

For what it’s worth… my dealer sells both Innuos and Network Acoustics products. While both switches are good, he says the Network Acoustics tempus is better than the PhoenixNET. A number of his customers traded-in their PhoenixNET and upgraded to the tempus. [Note: the Network Acoustics tempus is a two box solution.]

I live in a small space, and currently I do not use a switch. I purchased an Antipodes K40 server. The K40 has an “network” input and a “direct stream” output - both the input and output are on RJ45 ethernet.

Here is my set-up:
modem > ethernet cable > music server > ethernet cable > music player

Hi, apologies for making this slightly off topic suggestion, and in any case it is your money you are spending, but I do believe you are a user of REW software?

For the budget for purchasing the switch you have asked about I might suggest first purchasing a better microphone for the REW measurements? This is what I recently did (miniDSP UMIK-2) and it has helped me enormously to make more informed purchasing decisions.

YMMV.

I lived with the Tempus for a bit more than 2 months and I also own a K41. I found that, together with the K41 which is already performing reclocking, the additional reclocking in the Tempus made things more relaxed which ended up being too relaxed for my taste. Yes it does clean up some rough edges but I found it was too much of a good thing and the Naim PRaT suffered with both units. I did on the other hand find the Muon Pro a very worthwhile addition to my system.

I am still waiting for a used Network Acoustics tempus to be traded-in to my dealer.

My dealer has sold “quite a few of them,” and none of them have come back.

btw, I am using Network Acoustics eno2 ethernet cables in my digital front end, as well as one Network Acoustics eno2 filter (between my modem and my server).

Thank you for this.

I lived with two eno2 filters in my digital front end for a few months, and I found the Naim PRaT suffered.

With my network and system, one eno2 filter is better than two eno2 filters.

I had a ENO2 (with my old PhoenixNET) and I thought the cumulative effect was odd and it was just too smooth and boring.

I’ve since moved them both on, now I’m looking at just one filter / switch for now.

In a perfect situation I’d just get both from NA and do a decent comparison and return the one that I like the least. But I can’t afford both at once…

Every review and (almost every forum threads) I’ve found say the Tempus is immediately a change (for the better) especially for speed and engagement.

So GK saying the opposite is interesting, but we all hear differently of course, so there’s no right or wrong.

I’m suspecting perhaps a switch AND a filter can perhaps be too much of a cumulative effect in some situations and it goes too far in a certain direction ?

That’s why I’ll inclined to just do “one and done” so to speak.

I already have reclocking in my stack (in the K41 server) and hence the Tempus was a second reclocking step. I found the addition made everything too relaxed. I did not try the tempus without the K41 as this is my main music server.

After a lengthy email exchange with Rob at NA, I’ve decided to go just with a Muon Pro Filter package.

The Muon Pro Filter and 2x NA Muon Cables.

He said it’s the best “initial set up” for someone with nothing between a Router and a server/ streamer.

Said it’s the best value for the money for someone getting into filters / switches from NA who already has a very good system and wants to do the finishing touches with more streaming in mind (like me).

He could easily just have said just to go for the more expansive Tempus and try it for myself.

The ethical and no BS tone of his email exchange was refreshing and I’ll remember that moving forward.

Another great British company for sure, just like NAIM

Just a suggestion, but maybe profile needs a update.

The quote didn’t charged well. It’s a @razzzor1963 past post.

I see now. Thank you for pointing that out to me. :+1::blush:

I have no intention neither unlimited funds to change such expensive switches as my PhoenixNet every year.
I don’t doubt there may be better or will be better, but it’s already very very good.

Rob is really great, he helped quite a bit with my system as well. Dealing with NA has been a pleasure.

Hi @razzzor1963, how do you rate your eno2 filter? What benefits did it bring to your system?

Yes every exchange with NA is valuable and Rob is very helpful, really taking care of someone‘s setup not just about NA products. That what I appreciate a lot too.

Regarding your Tempus, did you try with a better power cord?

stavrose, thank you for your question.

It took a few years, but I sorted out my Naim boxes first.
Source: NDX 2/XPS DR
Preamplifier: NAC252/SuperCap DR
Power Amplifier: NAP250 DR
Power Conditioner: Audioquest Niagara 5000/Audioquest Tornado High Current power cable
Power-Line full loom
SuperLumina full loom
The NAC252 and the NDX2 are on a Naim Fraim.
The XPS DR, the SuperCap DR and the NAP250 DR are on an Isoblue Hifi rack.

My “old” digital front end (modem, Cisco 2960 switch, Roon Nucleus/Ferrum Hypsos power supply, Chord Epic streaming cables) was fine until I upgraded to SuperLumina.

Thanks to excellent support from my dealer, I was able to sort out my “new” digital front end.
Modem > Network Acoustics eno2 streaming cable (1.5m) > Network Acoustics eno2 filter > Network Acoustics eno2 streaming cable (0.75m) > Antipodes K40 music server > Network Acoustics eno2 streaming cable (1.5m) > Naim NDX 2 music player
My Antipodes K40 music server is plugged into a Yeti Acoustics 1000W Standard power conditioner/Yeti Standard Plus power cable.
My modem is plugged directly into a wall socket.

I live in a small space, so I do not have any long runs of cable.
Also, my network is very simple: a laptop, a tablet, a music server.

While the Roon Nucleus/Ferrum Hypsos benefited from the addition of the Cisco switch, the Antipodes K40 did not.

I auditioned a second Network Acoustics eno2 filter (placed between my Antipodes K40 music server and my NDX 2 music player), but it compromised my system’s pace, rhythm and timing.

I tried using one Network Acoustics eno2 filter placed between my Antipodes K40 music server and my NDX 2 music player, but it upset the tonal balance of my system.

What works best for me in my set-up is one Network Acoustics eno2 filter between my modem and my Antipodes K40 music server. I am guessing the eno2 filter is removing the network noise generated by my modem.

The amount of cleaning/filtering your set-up will need will depend upon your network and your set-up. In my opinion, there is no “best practice” solution. What works best for one set-up may not work best for another set-up.

Adding one Network Acoustics eno2 filter after my modem reduces network noise without compromising the music.

At some point in time, I will demo a Network Acoustics tempus switch. To be honest, I have no idea if it will make my set-up better, worse or if there will be no change.

I did, I tried a Shunyata Delta V2 and a Cerious Luminscate. Both made audible differences, more body or more air, but did not affect the timing.
