The release includes versions for …
Windows - 11,10, 8, 7 and Vista
macOS - 14 Sonoma, 13 Ventura, 12 Monterey, 11 Big Sur
Synology - DSM7 or newer
QNAP
Linux - 32 bit & 64 bit
ARM Raspberry Pi - 32 bit & 64 bit
No, or at least not that I am aware of.
Maybe others or dBpweramp are the best to advise, it may be so with Windows but not for Pi (e.g.)
I do it the same way as I’ve always done since 2014
Download the Asset software package to my laptop, open NAS (Synology) URL on the laptop and follow the Synology process to upload & install
Ok that was a little unnerving but I used my original purchase email to get the correct version. Then it registered I had a previous version and I had to uninstall it first then restart the computer. Finally I had to re-run the exe file and it came up fine and from what I can tell is working the same as before. Edit: does asset update often? Just wondering
It does update quite often but it doesn’t matter if you don’t do it. I’m about a year behind and need to pay for the big version upgrade at some point.
I am the biggest fan of AssetUPnP
BUT
It messed up my test system installation on W10 32bit using an Asset service (don’t ask it’s irrelevant).
The update process itself worked perfectly with a restart after it removed R2023-05-15.
However I have heavily customised my browse tree and added artwork and all this was lost.
It also changed my service to a local account and still did not work when I changed it back.
It appears that there are changed configuration files xxx-r8 not xxxx-r7 so I will have to investigate further.
Reinstalled R2023-05-15 which worked perfectly again.
I will have to investigate and maybe talk to Illustrate.
I could not find any “detailed” installation guidance and help - anybody?
SO BE CAREFUL.
If you have a straight forward out of the box installation I am sure it will be fine. Asset are usually very reliable.
Hi Paul, yes better talk to Illustrate.
I too have a customised browse tree & some customised art, however my R7 stuff is still on the database, and the Browse Tree as seen on iPad is unchanged.
I have a new NAS (Synology) URL item showing “Library data from previous Asset UPnP version found. If you do not plan to use older versions, you can delete it to free disk space.”
This apparrently is the R7, so I will be working thru R8 until all in order, then delete the R7 library.
No issue with RPi update either…
The old version downloads the correct file via your browser to your Mac/PC
I then use SCP on the OSX shell to transfer to Pi.
I expand the tar file, and then run the INSTALL.sh script… it detects the old version and upgrades it… all settings and databases automatically carried over and/or updated.
(Synology 7) I just deleted the old data, no issues for me
I did notice that the update removed the pin I setup, and I had to re-enter the order number. I have no customisations, so no issues for me
BTW, I suspect people know this, but if not, you can select " [Edit Browse Tree as plain text]" then copy and paste the results into a text file for safe keeping
Hi GadetMan …
I too have just deleted my old library, no problems.
I’ve kept my Browse Tree plain text on file since first started with Asset, its a good tip for forumites.
Asset had a fit today first of all two versions of the same server name are visible but then I clicked on them and both were empty. So I went to asset in my pc and it dutifully told me 0 tracks and albums so I went into advance settings- no folder so I added my music folder back and I think it says the same number of albums as before. No idea how this all happened it’s not like I’ve done anything to the source folder.
Made the mistake of updating to R2024-08-07 today… on an M2 Mac Mini.
Could not get it to work properly at all… Naim app either couldn’t see the server or saw it but wouldn’t play my files, did not show any album art, etc.
Tried every possible reset/restart/install/uninstall/reinstall option more than a few times…
Back to R2023-05-15 (from my backup) and all is well again.
Hi John, sorry to read your post.
I can’t help as I have no experience of macOS, not helped as my update on a Windows went first time perfectly.
All I can suggest is to post a help request to the guru’s at the dBpoweramp forum
