I’ve just had a call from my dealer to say that my new 19’s have arrived in store
They also have the new stands for me to pick up
So I’m picking them all up tomorrow… can’t wait!
I’m just hoping that the run-in time isn’t too long on the ATC’s

I intend to fit the grills onto the new 19’s
I know the grills are not to everyone’s taste but I want to keep the precious ATC drivers as clean as I can for as long as I can. I’m actually ok with the grills but I’ll see what my partner thinks of them!
The 19’s are in for the long haul so I want them to look good for a little while

Understood, but with the best will in the world, the ATC grilles, of all grilles, ain’t gonna do it!
When I had my SCM7s, I gave them a very light brushing with a feather duster about once a month to keep the dust off.

I totally agree CM they aren’t the best grills I’ve ever seen but if it protects the drivers for a while I’m ok with them
According to ATC the grills make very little difference to the sound of the speakers which is a good thing
I like the ATC grills, they remind me of Moulin Rouge.
So, now try to unsee that!

I’ve got so used to the rather scratched & damaged demo 19 pair but I’m hoping that the brand new ones will sound ok
I am sure you will enjoy. I found open frame wooden stands sounded best with my 19s.. it helped the 19s become more agile and open…. In my opinion.

My understanding is that speakers in the entry series were voiced with grilles on. But TBH I can’t hear a difference with them on or off (on SCM40s). They don’t provide much protection from dust, so I tend to leave them off except when the cleaners are due.

I’ve been using demo Custom Design ones from my dealer and I’ve ordered the same with slightly different top to better allow for the 19’s girth..!

I think initially PM I’ll probably put the grills on but as you say there’s not a lot of protection from dust
I reckon after a couple of weeks I’ll take them off
Paul at Custom Designs is a cracking lad, but my SCM11s really, I mean really opened up on solid steel SS6s from a pair of M601s.
I’ve not yet filled the SS6 neither…. Perhaps in the summer a little bit of filler….

I’ve given my partner the job of putting the new stands together… I could do it myself but it gives him something to do a
I’m really not looking forward to running in brand new speakers so I hope they don’t sound rubbish once they are unboxed and on their new stands
