The Cello palette preamp would be fine to you
Just kidding
That’s the good thing about having a piece of Statement in the chain
All those details the NAC S1 retrieves give a touch of “real” to music reproduction. Especially for classical music. I like it very much. But with other genres less so.
For me the main difference between Classical and several other genres is the way they are recorded.
Classical pieces are recorded as a whole, while many other genres don’t. There is some “stitching” during the mastering process, and we hear it .
It can be disturbing with pop/rock music and, sometimes, jazz as well.
The ambient around instruments is sometimes different from the ambient around the voices, that’s awkward.
Hearing everything can be disturbing
But it also can be fun to see/hear all the mastering. I can imagine with a system like yours it is something quite easy to follow.
Great, a free upgrade with a very clear improvement sound wise
I think Mark Levinson is the owner if i`m not wrong
Right.
Hello
Yesterday my Naim app prompted me that a firmware upgrade was available for my Unity Nova and I asked it to go ahead an upgrade. The Nova disappeared from the app and by the time I went to bed an hour later it was still not back. This morning it was still gone so I pressed the front standby button to bring wake it up and the Nova soon started emitting these loud slow pulsing noises such that I had to unplug the speakers. I then managed to have it on long enough to be recognized by the app. I looked at the firmware on the app which said it was up to date. Plugging the speakers back on and waking up the Nova just exhibited the same problem.
I did a factory reset and more worrying developments. Everything seemed to go OK initially though strangely the firmware version was still current and did not need upgrading! Once more, when I connected the speakers I again got the loud pulsing noises. There was then a crackling sound from inside the cabinet (like sparks we going off) and a faint burning smell.
A warning flashed on the front screen a couple of times but vanished too quickly for me to see what it was. I unplugged the power and speakers as quickly as I could. Later, I plugged the power back without the speakers and again got the crackling/sparking sound. Now everything is unplugged and I’m not sure what I should do!
Consolidated this in edits to the first message. I have written in to Naim support.
My Nova has just told me there’s an update available.
Do I or don’t I
I hope you get yours sorted out.
Well I am no Sonic the Hedgehog, but my spidey senses are telling me, don’t plug it back in.
Sent an email to Naim Support last night about the volume display issue, problem solved. I don’t know how they managed it but working fine right now. Thank you for your advice. Much appreciated.
Will Chromecast firmware ever be updated? It’s still on 1.40
while other native chromecast devices (Nest mini, Nest Hub) are on 1.50, 1.52
Firmware updated without a hitch but am also having HDMI issues with my Samsung TV and Nova similar to @Mark84.
Initially wakes the Nova and plays sound ok and often remote volume works initially but then stops after a short time.
Not done a full power down as yet so will do that tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed.
Otherwise as @Richard.Dane has asked will email Naim support.
Can anyone point me to information on how to revert firmware to a previous version?
Thanks.
It is something that is discouraged as it can result in issues and features not working properly. You would need to contact Naim Support and discuss it with them.
Ha ha. Definitely not. Waiting for a response from the dealer/Naim.
I find it hard to imagine how a firmware upgrade would wreak such havoc but immediately before the upgrade everything was working beautifully! I’m waiting for a response. Naim asked me to check with the dealer. The dealer told me to please wait while they check with Naim.
That’s so bizarre but no doubt Naim will sort it out.
I took the plunge and stood by ready to unplug but fortunately no dramas.
I hope you get yours back up and running again soon.
I hope so too. Right now I’m waiting for responses and learning to appreciate my MuSo v2 once again! Good thing I held on to it!
I’ve been watching this from the sidelines. It looks like most of the problems are with the Nova and Atom. So I might try the update tomorrow even though I haven’t had any of the random reboots.
If I have to delete and add the app like some, what will I lose? Radio stations? Playlists? Favorites?
