Support have reached out to me. thanks to @Richard.Dane I have let them know all my issues. In their hands now as to what happens.
Ah. I hadnāt noticed that. I also liked the rainbow squigglesā¦ Maybe theyāll stage a comeback?
Do presets sync between your streamers?
Hi Torben, is it the same whether you try to view through the embedded link here or via youtube directly?
Hi Richard. Sorry but canāt find the video directly in YouTube. Finds a lot of others from Naim, which I all Can see.
When I follow the link here in question I just get:
! Video not available - This video is not available in your country.
PS: No problem with the video with John Cleese here in the thread.
OK thanks, Iāll let Naim know.
Logging in and out of Tidal on the NDX2 fixed the presets problem with presets disappearing or more showing on the display. Still canāt preset favourites from the Core or select favourites via the remote > home > buttons - this only shows Tidal favourites, not favourites from the Core. And presets doesnāt seem to sync between streamers. Sounds great though.
On the favourites, for the NDX2 both local (Core) and Tidal tracks show in the app, but in the screen via the remote home button only Tidal favourites display, so there is either a bug or the UI is designed not to work with the Uniti Core.
Anyway my lovely dealer saw my posts and is trying to get some help on this. I have a support ticket, but we are 12 hours ahead of the UK, so itās not a very efficient way to sort through things. Unfortunately my dealer is back in lockdown (remember NZ eradicated Covid, we were toldā¦ right), so hasnāt seen the new Firmware yet as the streamers are in the shop and he canāt go to his shopā¦
I could imagine, that a sync might be useful; but should be optional, if it existed. Imagine 2 units in different rooms often used by different people or use cases.
Maybe an initial āper unitā is more flexible and an eventual optional sync can add convenience for āsingle usersā (or homogeneous listening crowds) with many devices.
I donāt use my Atom that much but the upgrade seems to have happened without much fuss. Glad I seemed to have dodged a bullet.
Regarding the change in SQ.
Just a note for those who have said they are uncomfortable with the sonic change.
Initially for me, the increase in detail was impressive. After extended listening however, I started to feel fatigued with needing to concentrate to try and find the music.
It felt forced, as if it had become simply a display of sound effects.
My solution was to remove the ācup and ballā supports that I had put under the 282 and 250 on the top shelves, which had previously extended the āhifiā effects without losing the music under the previous regime, and let them sit directly on the surface.
Et voila! The music returned.
Hi Torben, having looked into this, it seems that because the video has music on it, it has been blocked in Denmark while thereās a dispute between Koda and Youtube. So apologies to all in Denmark and hopefully they will settle their dispute soon. There are of course other ways around the blockā¦
It all went fine for me, Thomas. It took a little while to show any activity during the update process on the screen, but itās fine. Post update operation is fine and SQ is fine too - I havenāt noticed any change.
My only issue before had been screen freeze every couple of weeks or so, where the screen would show a previous album. Iāll have to wait to see if that no longer happens, but itās never really been a big deal as I have the screen off and it is resolved by a power cycle anyway.
Actually, the wider the range of music I listen to as the ND555 settles down after the update, the more impressed I become with the improvement in sound quality: a very nice and unexpected upgrade building on the improvements of the previous one, albeit largely in different areas. I wouldnāt be surprised if those disappointed by the last one are much happier now.
The Jury is still out for me, I find the bass a little down and overall a bit brighter, lots of detail for sure but borderline clinical to my ears, happy to give it more time though not that I have much choice other than request a rewind. Iām not sure I really like the fact that the FW brings sonic changes every time and your at the mercy of what someone else thinks is an improvement , do I really want a new sounding system every few months? Not really.
Hello Michael,
Can you explain how a firmware update is supposed to bring any variation in terms of sound? I would find it rather scary if the sound could be tuned by Software as this would mean there would be some dsp in play in some point in the signal path. I was thinking that any variation in the sound must be solved in the hardware design of any component.
Thanks,
David
After having problems initially my 555 is working great. I lost all sound after the upgrade. I called into Naim service about 4:15 pm their time and immediately was connected to a technician working out of his home. He lead me through a factory reset and all was good. Very happy with the service and the new upgrade. Even when I was right in the middle of no sound, I kept reminding myself, āitās not life or deathā, thatās the one thing 2020 has kept pounding in my head. I am really trying to put things in their proper perspective. My satisfaction level with my system has dramatically improved and my character flaw of never being satisfied is slowly eroding. Good luck to all who are experiencing problems.
I have no idea
Iāve often wondered the same thing. To my ears the bass seems a bit up, to Hollowās it seems down. I wouldnāt be surprised if there actually isnāt any change at all and itās largely psychoacoustics. And in reality no change could be measured or heard in a double blind test.
Perhaps one of the members with REW or similar tools could see if any difference shows.
Hi David
This baffled me at one time. Within the firmware the functionality and sound are linked. When the firmware is changed for functionality the sound often changes in the versions received for beta testing. Once the functionality is sorted out the sound is then tuned in the software to get it right, and hopefully to improve it if possible. There are occasions when the beta team have been asked to choose between versions and decide which sound they prefer. Of course, the final decision is made at Salisbury using various systems to ensure the result is consistent.
