New firmware update

Isn’t it

Obviously! :expressionless:

Of course not :innocent:

And to be honest, if I had to choose between music and granite, I’d choose granite.

Seems they all have their own story, mine mentioned the pandemic as having slowed supply, I guess it’s a variety of issues. Unfortunately right now I’d rather a ndx2 than the spice of life

There is an issue with parts. They have a number of “almost build” units sitting in a warehouse in Bristol. Awaiting Naim green illuminated logos. Plus the firmware issue. Oh, and 555s and NDX2s waiting for screens. The parts issues are not directly related to covid. They are quality issues from their suppliers.

Respectfully, if you don’t mind me asking, how do you come by this information. I’ve currently got as far as suspecting an elevated view of the Bristol factory and high power binoculars. :eyes:

My ND5 XS2 was stuck in a semi-completed queue for a couple of months, waiting for an unspecified part. It arrived last Friday, and (regarding 3.5) has been faultless - albeit it’s acting purely as a digital front-end.

It’s just a warehouse in Bristol.
As for the insight, it’s via my dealer. It’s not a secret. But also it’s not on their website.
My deal is waiting for 11 streamers from Naim. Mainly 555 and NDX2. Naim are ( rightly) not shipping until they are happy with the quality of parts supplied. But it does mean storing part built machines outside of the factory ( I guess Naim do not have the space).

I am fully with you. I belief the problem is wider spread and it should have been realized in testing. I didn’t do crazy things, just listening music. The one time with listening Qobuz which started stuttering, and then switched to playing from NAS and in the middle it stopped. The next one I only played from the Melco and after a short listening the ND555 rebooted.

What’s also not ok. I registered my incident on Friday. And it’s now Wednesday and besides the automated acknowledgement of the reception of the incident, no further communication from Naim since, so much for customer service…

Bert, to be fair to Naim there has been posting here on the forum (and on this very thread) from Steve Harris who heads up Naim’s software development, and I have also been passing on comms from Naim - all in an effort to not only help afflicted members but also to try to get an idea of why things have not gone smoothly for some people.
But of course, I do understand your frustration, and I do know that Naim are working hard on finding a fix.

To that end, I hope to have a further update shortly, which I will again communicate to the forum.

Quite agree - I think us lowly Atom and Nova users must have been seemed like skinflint newbies (despite decades of non-digital Naim ownership) to those with higher end old platform streamers when the Uniti range was released and we had a bit of a whinge about changing sound quality with firmware updates - people were sceptical. It’s real, it either works for you sonically or it doesn’t.

I still feel we should be able to revert to older firmware, but accept that the overall design means it is difficult to keep a stable sonic signature with new firmware adding features or fixing bugs.

Bugs are a fact of life with any but the simplest software, and I doubt there is the remote possibility of replicating every possible configuration of settings/inputs/usage during in house or user beta testing.

Unless of course, one uses vinyl.

I’m sorry but I have a rather different opinion.

[NDxxx]----[Switch]----[UPnP or RAAT server]

  • Disable everything and test : that’s the basic setup and should be rock solid.

  • Then enable Chromecast and test

  • Disable Chromecast and enable Qobuz access, and test

  • etc.

Simple!

Its called testing procedure. And you can even give it to a trainee.

It’ll take a couple of weeks, or less, and you’ll be able to reproduce almost all situations in the NDxxx range.

Did you copy and paste my comment from last night :joy::joy:

Explain one thing. If you can. Please, maybe… if you would. I have not experienced one single problem since the update to 3.5. Nada. Zilch. Not a single jot.

I don’t.

But, as replied to GraemeH, may I ask the following :

Do you leave your NDX2 always on, with standby set to “never”?
Did you check you DHCP logs?

If both answers are yes then you can consider yourself lucky.

I’m not. My ND555 feels the need to reboot :unamused:

I have always left both my ND5 XS 2 and NDX 2 in default mode. I can assure you i do not consider myself lucky.

Are you absolutely sure you have a solid network?

I don’t see your point. You seem not to have any issues with your system, and that’s nice.

How can I put this?
I could afford my system because I know one or two things about that stuff

Barf, I just threw up behind the sofa, thanks for that

What do you mean by default mode?
