New from Naim – Solstice Special Edition turntable

Whether Naim make them in house or contract them out, they should get it done and send them out gratis.

I was just wondering if the stock cartridge was available I haven’t heard of anyone buying or talking about prices.
Edit
I’ve just done a search and can’t find it anywhere other than in the
“ package.”

I suppose if you’re in the U.K. you could change it to something like “bet a pound to a peanut.”

Raging usually does not get the result one is looking for but I appreciate the sentiment :grinning:
Yes- angry, disillusioned , disappointed, loss of faith in a once great hifi company all apply here. It’s the details in customer service that matter in the longevity of any company and it feels like we have lost that here. Such a shame.
Why should a new customer of Naim’s newest and greatest streamer have any faith that the unit will be looked after by the manufacturer if a simple counter weight cannot be made available for purchase? It just makes no sense to me…

From Naim Service Dept:

*Equinox Cartridge – as with every turntable, after a certain number of hours the cartridge will need replacing. These wear down over time, and the diamond becomes blunt, resulting in poor sound quality and audio feedback. If you, on average play 3 albums per day, then your cartridge should need replacing every 18-24 months. If you are unsure, your retailer should be able to inspect the cartridge’s diamond for you (with magnifying equipment) and advise whether replacement is needed. The Equinox cartridge was especially designed for the Solstice. Currently, we are un-sure what the exact future of this cartridge looks like. The hope is that we will have stock, which can be purchased by time a replacement is required. However, if this is not the case, then our recommendation would be any Dynavector cartridge which, in terms of sound quality, compatibility and style, will be a great replacement for the Equinox, and will not require a change in counterweight.

Is that a joke?

I understand much better now.

The goal is to have a lighter counterweight I think to remember.
Why not cut off, by a steel worker specialist, a part of the counterweight ?

How do you turn a Naim Solstice into a Potters Wheel ?

Wait until the Stylus wears out.

Terrible after sales service. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Heresy, and please bear in mind that I have not seen the Solstice, but is it possible to install a different arm on the TT?

That would be tragic J as the arm is probably the best part of the package (sound wise)

No…

Yes, maybe…but less tragic than having an unuseable TT.

Style over substance.

Perfectly reasonable advice from Naim. Every 18-24 months drop 10k+ into the heavy top of the line Dyna because that’s the only thing heavy enough to work properly on the Solstice. I think the correct response if someone wanted to be polite would be “Get Real”. If you don’t want to be polite I’m sure you could fashion an appropriate alternative response.

As i said i absolutely love Naim but cannot for the life of me come to grips with what they have done here.

Well, after the first time, it’s just a factory rebuild (for a XV-1s or -1t) at 70% of retail cost. While you wait months for it to come back from Japan, you can hang out here – after all, none of your backup cartridges will work – while Naim sit on their hands not solving a really stupid problem, created out of their own shortsightedness.

Yes, that’s how bad it can be in a top-managed company, hardly something Naim can be blamed for.
