New from Naim – Solstice Special Edition turntable

But the opinions of those who’ve actually experienced a product - as opposed to rampantly speculating - should hold more weight

No wonder the new case I ordered for my 282 is slightly off in color from the old and the fascia.

Or maybe that’s just age of 15 years……… :joy:

Scott

It has an olive fascia? We were talking about why the old olive fascias are sometimes a different shade of olive. It would have all been avoided if they’d let Naim know sooner…

It actually includes DR modules within its design. Here you go, for those that love an annotated picture.

Yes, but that doesn’t stop those without the experience, from posting on the Interwebz.
They might be regarded as… Trolls…

They should perhaps, follow Thumper’s Mothers Rule - “If you have nothing good to say … say nothing.”

YMMV, etc.

Well - I think that there is nothing necessarily wrong with saying something bad (indeed, it can be helpful and informative), but it should be backed by experience and knowledge, not just assumptions and beliefs.

It was a little tongue in cheek on the lost formula, in reference that they lost the formula for the Naim black too because my new case doesn’t match. But it is really age of component.

I’ve read the full ‘review’ - the ‘on line’ version of plush has already been released.

Your overly defensive reaction and accusation of ‘misrepresentation’ says it all. I think my assessment of Alan’s reportage is pretty accurate. He concludes by saying that the most interesting aspect of the Solstice is really what it foretells for future developments. Now in review land that is definitely damning with faint praise.

I’m not sure how it came to a Olive color shade discuss, but I am fine with my own remaining Olive boxes, currently packed away not in use, I am happy for each being unique.

Hmm… I realised that. Frankly, it’s semantics as to whether the circuit exists at one end of a cable or the other. Though I think it’s widely recognised that regulation should take place as close as possible to the circuit so inside the stage makes better sense. However, traditionally Naim have not done this….

This doesnt look very much like an “LP12 variant” to me. But what do I know?!?!?

We’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Pretty sure many others will feel the same once they have read the full review, too.

Even more once they have seen and heard Solstice at their dealer.

Looks like the full review can be viewed by all for free? I subscribed to the digital version of HiFi+ which can be view with PocketMags (on iOS at least) and I noted that a free issue is available for providing your email to said app.

Apart from a tall platter

It’s a special free issue, not the latest issue, at least that is what my iphone is telling me. The issue with the Solstice in is £3.99.

I think your summary of the depth of the review is fair, but I don’t get to the same point. I think any reviewer that speaks of frustration at being unable to buy the product is by definition in possession of something that’s more than “okay” !

I’m just not sure how you could come to this conclusion - he doesn’t say it’s the most interesting thing, he says he’s buoyed by the possibilities it opens up for design ideas to trickle down - and yes, be built upon.

I do think you are taking blinkered view of a what can only be seen as a very positive review - although as previous, I do agree that the review scope is limited.

A couple of sound bytes you may have missed…

“The more I listened the more I liked it”

“I knew this was going to be something special”

“This deck helps you enjoy the music, all else is a secondary concern”

“When it’s right it stops you in your tracks. And that’s what the Naim did so well”

The “pointing towards future developments” notion is something you are interpreting as “it’s ok - but it could be better” which is a super negative way of taking it - another way is “it’s great - and the modularity of the platform means it’s can get even better as an ecosystem grows around it” …I think Mr Sircom is clearly pointing to the latter rather than the former, particularly with the fulsome praise he garners the package elsewhere in the review.

I like my glass half full. But appreciate that’s not for everybody.

I’m not at all up on hifi mags, haven’t read a current one in years…why does everyone refer to Mr Sircom rather than Alan (or just plain) Sircom?

Apologies for the irrelevance to the topic!

Lot of men called Alan in this industry. Saves confusion

Lol. I don’t recall Mr Messenger being a thing, but there must be a fair few Pauls out there…maybe Alan’s are predisposed to tweaky button stuff
