New IOS & Android App Update

Looks like you can now stream to your iPhone / iPad after creating an account.

Android as well. If I read the What’s new? correctly you can connect to Android Auto as well amd play the local Radio in your car through the Naim app…

Seems Naim is on a whole new path here. Curious on what’s next!

I would love Focal/Naim to help out the Auralic users and add their streamers to this app. :+1:

Lovely update!

That seems a bit far fetched, but you can Airplay it to non-Naim devices.

Of course its far fetched but it’s a good app. BT or airplay is possible though as you say. Good enough for radio.

For anyone who only uses BBC stations or Radio Paradise, to my mind it makes more sense to use their own apps to cast to streamers around the house. The Naim app is a good option for streaming a wider variety of stations though, especially as it tends to make the higher quality streams readily accessible.

Hi Chris, some of my stations on Naim have higher bitrate than the native app. GrooveSalad as example. So I am sold already. Checking CarPlay tonight when driving home.

I have the new app installed on my Google Pixel 8a and on a tablet that’s from the stone age.

On the phone all is well. Layout on the tablet though is pretty bad. The inputs are mixed with the name I gave the device and other icons on top:

I think the main use won’t be for streaming to devices in the home, but streaming radio to a phone or tablet, for example to then stream into AirPods. Works well streaming into modern hearing aids too.

Perhaps, but it’s an option for users of devices that have limited iRadio functionality which isn’t so unusual.

Some might like the access to volume control using the iPhone buttons which you get in Airplay too.

Basically they have taken the work from the naim radio service and built on it. From a user perspective at least mine the obvious way forward is to be able to change from internet radio on a naim hardware device to internet radio in the app and bakc a again. At least for live streams this will be a way to use one app instead of 2 or more unless you are looking for on demand content.

Sadly the companion app for Apple Watch only works for the most recent streamers … I was unrealistically hoping for so much more. The Roon app is too expensive at the moment … perhaps I might reconsider.

Logged the app into my Naim account and the radio function with a Bluetooth speaker and it works with my Pixel phone. This could be very useful for listening to Paradise Rock Mix and a few others away from home, mostly in the car.

I’ve had this in Beta for a while. We used it on holiday in the South of France in September, to play radio via Bluetooth to our Ruark radio and it was really good. It’s been rock solid. If people don’t want it visible all the time, say while at home, there is a setting to remove it from the Home Screen.

@HungryHalibut is there anywhere to post suggestions for the app?

Just got a Sonos Ray as a soundbar for the Mac to free up desk space, the downside is that it shows an a UPNP server that’s visible as a share in the Naim app, would be great if it could be hidden and I can’t disable it on the Sonos.

I notice there is now a bigger gap between the volume + and - buttons in the app on my iPhone. This is much nicer for those with larger fingers! The layout of the play screen looks much nicer actually as the background colour changes in line with the artwork.

This has been raised before and there are reasons for not doing it, exactly what they are escapes me. By all means email Naim Support, but it’s almost certainly a thing to just put up with. It’s only an issue when you first choose servers, once in you won’t see it.

Nice update and being able to see the volume controls is a definite plus!

So how do I get the update? I had no problem in my first attempt with an iPad 9. I went to the App Store clicked on Update next to the Focal and Naim app and bingo. But since then I’ve tried on two iPhones, and I don’t see Update next to the Focal and Naim app - simply Open. But the new version is not installed - I’m still on 7.5.1.

FYI - I’m running iOS 17 on one iPhone and on the iPad and and iOS 26 on the other . And I’m based in NYC.
