Linn are about to announce a new arm, the Arko (designed to sit between the Ekos and Akito, or maybe replace the latter), plus two new carts, the entry level MC Koil and the pricier Kendo, which looks like a kind of Baby Ekstatik.
No official announcement as yet, but the three are all in the Linn Docs section of Linn’s website, with an introduction date of June 2022.
Any why not? The OC9 always performed really nicely on the old LP12 and Ittok. And I especially favoured the later OC9 MLII with that particular deck and arm.
Linn seem to be on a real roll at the moment. New analogue products, Organik DAC, the top notch Klimax streamer and the upgrades for the older Klimax products…
Good to see a company pushing on forward in these ‘interesting’ times
This a reply to @IanRobertM as well, whose reply appeared in my inbox but not on here.
I can’t justify £3k tbh. A second-hand Ekos 2 may doable if I could get it fitted and sell my Ittok. But…we have many things to do on the house. The Internet can be a real pain at times, leading me into temptation
You should be able to sell the Ittok on eBay no problem. You can buy Ekos 2s on there as well. You may be able to contact the seller and do a part exchange, as they are usually in the trade. Or speak to Cymbiosis and see what they can do. It may be a trip to get it done. Maybe combine it with a weekend away!
Broadly agree, here. As I understand it, for me, to move from my Ittok to a good, pre-loved Ekos would need me to spend maybe another £700 or more, over and above the trade-in for my Ittok. So I was told… By Cym… (so, this idea is ‘parked’, currently)
@Dan_M - Err… IF… I was to look at a used Ekos, it would need to be coming from a known source - so a respected Linn dealer… (so for me - that’s Cym… again)
Ian I like my Ittok. I have had it since I was in my 20s. I am 64 this year. Still remain unconvinced about some of these “night and day” improvements some hear. Each to their own, I hasten to add!
The work I had done on the Sondek in 2020 was substantial, and, I think, really all I am going to spend on it.
If your happy with what you have then there is no need to change it. I have an Akito which has been upgraded and modded by Audio Origami with rewire, metal plate strengthening base and bearings all replaced a few years ago. It sounds wonderful and so I want to get as much use out of it before I upgrade, which I may not even do!
I spent £700 on it so I will never get the money back on it, so I may as well enjoy it.
Me too…! I bought mine in 1982 (for £253) - so I was still in my 20’s…
I am only 1 or 2 years behind you…!!
Having gone to Cirkus, then Lingo then Kore, over the last few years, my LP12 has had enough done, I think. The only remaining outstanding thing would be to ‘renew’ my DV10X. Maybe later this year…?
