My reason for skipping the 252 and going straight to 552 was to free up my Supercap for my Superline. Alas I’m still stuck at 282.
Good plan. I’m sure there will be backwards compatibility but if not, there’s a very healthy pre-loved market
I am with Richard with this one…hmmm
I think the CDS3 was one of Naim’s most successful designs aesthetically. The lid in the middle of the triptych design was lovely. The only issue was that the lid was prone to scratching unless cleaned super gently.
I like the conclusion. The supercap DR is needed on the superline , so I have to get the 552 pre.
But wireless active speakers still need to be connected to a power socket. I suspect this creates more layout difficulties than cables from pre/streamer to speakers. After all we’re used to running speaker cables from electronics to passive speakers.
And WISA is digital AFAIK, so the DAC presumably needs to go into the speakers along with the amps. That’s a lot to stuff into or bolt onto a speaker unless Naim have been busy on small Class D replacements for their big power amps.

I’ll hazard some guesses then, a TV sound bar and satellite speakers type thing with Atmos, a portable powered speaker (level below the Qb), wireless air-bud thingies/headphones. All of them based on streaming via the new Focal/Naim app that was launched specifically for these new lifestyle products.
Stranger things have happened Mike. Just think about the place in the market Altec Lansing had a few decades ago and the stuff they sell now. Quite sobering… in a sort of trashy dayglo way.
Unfortunately I don’t know the price point of this particular new offering, nor would I reveal it if I did. The dealers (England) who divulged availability didn’t mention pricing, only timescales for demo.
By “mass market” I guess I meant something in the product range accessible to many and quite widely used.
And it’s not a soundbar @Mike_S. I have no knowledge of whether or not naim are developing such a product.
Let’s not ruin Richard’s new year.
“Hey Julian, find me some cute kitten videos.”
Perhaps we can look forward to a really good marketing campaign…remember the clever Naim posters…
.
Yes, something like: his brother has a Naim and I married him and then a photo of prince William.
How about a picture of Ivor Tiefenbrun smiling at his newly purchased Naim streamer with the caption “End of an error”.
OK, that makes sense. Lets not forget that Naim Audio is (part of ) a company, which needs to sell products and make money, to first survive and second to make the interesting, low numbers items that most Forumites love.
A Mass Market item, made in quantity, is surely a big help here. I imagine the ‘Bean Counters’ love the Muso & its progeny…
So something like this gets my vote - to ‘pay for’ the new Streamers ans the like.
That would the 42XO, with a built in Crossover… A rare beastie.
Sounds a bit like wishing for days of old that are long gone.
Where’s the Linn LP12
Well no I think a good marketing campaign is always relevant… a new clever eye catching series of adds would improve the consciousness of the brand…I am not suggesting a 70’s direct rehash…
