New Naim Internet Radio - Feedback & Requests - Part 11

A repeat of the opening post from Part 1:

At Naim, we understand that while many people use our products to get the best listening experience from their own music collection; sometimes you simply want to put the radio on and let someone else choose. We’ve offered a comprehensive internet radio solution for some time, and we are now delighted to announce the launch of our own in-house internet radio solution.

In a collaboration between XPeri and our team here at Naim, we have brought the internet radio server in-house to be maintained internally, as opposed to relying on a third party as with the previous server. This will improve reliability and has opened up a host of improvements to the service, detailed below:

- A selection of over 45,000 stations worldwide
- Advanced metadata feeds for artist, track and album info on many stations
- Focus on high-quality audio streams
- Improved station categorisation
- High-resolution station artwork
- Automated station scanning
- Station podcasts (where available)

The Focal & Naim app will identify any favourites and presets that should be resaved to use the new server.

These updates are not only improving the internet radio server but improving our streaming capabilities too. TIDAL’s new 24-bit, 192 kHz streaming tier, TIDAL Max, is now available through both the Focal & Naim app and TIDAL Connect.

In a significant update for our Chinese customers, Q-Play is now supported in Naim products. QQ Music is one of the largest music streaming services in China, and users are now able to select their Naim streamer from within the QQ Music app for a seamless listening experience.

Regards,
Naim Audio – Software team

With the launch of Naim’s new Internet Radio service (see above), I’ve created this dedicated thread where information can be posted relating to the service and members can post feedback and requests for the team at HQ.

Examples of how this thread can be used;

  • Announcements on key new stations / station rebrands etc. For example recently a big change in UK for Bauer Media and Global. Scala radio rebrands to Magic Classical and about 16 other new or existing stations changing.
  • request stations that we don’t have.
  • issues with a station. Eg, wrong meta / won’t play and so on.
  • notifications of any downtime on either our system in a given region, or a dependent system like the xperi live radio meta.
  • Search issues. We have the station but its hard to find as needs more tags.
  • feature requests / feedback / general radio gossip

Please ensure posts here are ONLY feedback re. the new Naim radio service or station requests. Thanks.

Hi all,

Re: Public broadcaster NRK, Norway

As of start of September they have rebranded one of their channels:
NRK P13 is now P3 Musikk

P13 is no more.

NRK P13 Radioresersjonen is rebranded accordingly:

NRK P1 Hedmark og Oppland - this is no longer available but to avoid presets to be resaved we’ve mapped it to the equiv local feed.

All stations have been updated with latest logos.

Hi again,

A few updates:

Energy (nrj) - now back to normal in Austria. We’ve resync’d to latest logos and naming as well.

Misty Radio, USA - this jazz channel has shutdown, so removed from the directory. We’ve seen a lot of failed play attempts going on,

Steve

Hello.

I’m pretty sure I used to be able to listen to most, if not all, BBC Radio 6 shows as a catch-up / podcast on my Uniti Star. I was specifically interested in “Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour”. I don’t find this show if I search for it - but do find other shows listed under “podcasts” such as Adam and Joe, BBC Music Introducing etc.

It’s been some time since I’ve tried to listen via my 'Star so perhaps it’s due to the change in the Internet Radio provisioning. Perhaps I’m somehow missing it or doesn’t exist on the updated radio service?

I’m in the UK.

Thank you very much.

Hi @GTE505

The BBC stopped supplying Ondemand material to third parties about 1.5yrs ago. The only way to get it is via the BBC Sounds app.

Thanks for the reply Steve.
Understood - had a feeling that might be case!

Hello Steve,

Could You add the French station:

“M Radio Culte Années 60 et 70” ?

Thank You.

This station works for me, have you tried using the app :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: search?

Oh yes. Sorry.

With full name I get NO RESULT but with " M Radio Culte" I found it.

Thank You very much.

Hi @Sympa

The m-radio brand can be found under international->France->Brands->M-radio.

Single letter station names can give our search engine some headaches. Think we need to put a few more custom rules in to the server.

Do you know why Mother Earth Klassik no longer works on my Atom? All other stations work as they have in the past.

Hi @stevegabel

Your original post ended up in the wrong thread,

RE: Mother Earth Klassik - have tried it here (from UK) and seems to be playing. Are you still experiencing this problem?

Best regards

Steve

Any chance of getting Bootleg Radio (broadcasting from Thessaloniki) Greece?

Hi @andrewb

Do you have a facebook, twitter. Instagram or website for this station?

I know the stream url of this station, but I believe it’s an underground pirate station so unlicensed to play music,

We like to do a few spot checks on stations for some form of legitimacy.

Steve,

I couldn’t find a website for it, which is probably explained by your comment. Please don’t worry about it if the station is not licensed.

Andy.

Hi Andy,

Had a look at this one in more detail and it’s hosted on live24.gr, which is a Greek broadcast yourself site. Overall, legit… or at least in Greece,

Now added:

Enjoy!

Hi @Stevesky

I’ve been using the podcast for CBC Canada “The World This Hour” (less convenient than the old looping radio but functional) but now face a different issue: the podcast episode seems to be stuck on the old version from Sunday evening (Sept 21). On the CBC web player link, it is up to date, but the Naim app link is “frozen”.

I had a tiny correspondence with the CBC tech team and pointed out the original issue with losing the looping radio cast, but apart from them saying they didn’t know if Naim is licensed, I never heard back.

Thanks for whatever you can discover on my (and possibly other Canadians’) behalf!

Hi Alan,

We’re just checking over the podcast.

On radio we license via XPeri, but in the case of podcasts they are public rss streams, which we pickup from a podcast directory.

Once we work out what’s up I’ll post back.

Best

Steve
