New Naim Internet radio - Feedback & Requests - Part 7

A repeat of the opening post from Part 1:

At Naim, we understand that while many people use our products to get the best listening experience from their own music collection; sometimes you simply want to put the radio on and let someone else choose. We’ve offered a comprehensive internet radio solution for some time, and we are now delighted to announce the launch of our own in-house internet radio solution.

In a collaboration between XPeri and our team here at Naim, we have brought the internet radio server in-house to be maintained internally, as opposed to relying on a third party as with the previous server. This will improve reliability and has opened up a host of improvements to the service, detailed below:

- A selection of over 45,000 stations worldwide
- Advanced metadata feeds for artist, track and album info on many stations
- Focus on high-quality audio streams
- Improved station categorisation
- High-resolution station artwork
- Automated station scanning
- Station podcasts (where available)

The Focal & Naim app will identify any favourites and presets that should be resaved to use the new server.

These updates are not only improving the internet radio server but improving our streaming capabilities too. TIDAL’s new 24-bit, 192 kHz streaming tier, TIDAL Max, is now available through both the Focal & Naim app and TIDAL Connect.

In a significant update for our Chinese customers, Q-Play is now supported in Naim products. QQ Music is one of the largest music streaming services in China, and users are now able to select their Naim streamer from within the QQ Music app for a seamless listening experience.

Regards,
Naim Audio – Software team

With the launch of Naim’s new Internet Radio service (see above), I’ve created this dedicated thread where information can be posted relating to the service and members can post feedback and requests for the team at HQ.

Examples of how this thread can be used;

  • Announcements on key new stations / station rebrands etc. For example recently a big change in UK for Bauer Media and Global. Scala radio rebrands to Magic Classical and about 16 other new or existing stations changing.
  • request stations that we don’t have.
  • issues with a station. Eg, wrong meta / won’t play and so on.
  • notifications of any downtime on either our system in a given region, or a dependent system like the xperi live radio meta.
  • Search issues. We have the station but its hard to find as needs more tags.
  • feature requests / feedback / general radio gossip

Please ensure posts here are ONLY feedback re. the new Naim radio service or station requests. Thanks.

The latest May Update can be read here;

There is a station that I would like to to have added, NeoFM from FluxFM - can this request be supported

Hi @Somerset

We have it already. As you’re on the older platform, browse to international->Europe->Germany->Brands->Flux FM

On newer products its found using the search feature

Hi Steve. It would appear that Celtic Songstress Radio has gone down - possibly hacked as suggested by the Google search below. Can you confirm if it has gone for good, or temporary?

Hi @GadgetMan

Their stations went offline about 3-4weeks ago and it all looks a bit permanent. Facebook page removed etc.

Currently consider it dead until proven otherwise.

Thanks for checking Steve!

Problem with NDR stations…

Ah - looks like the NDR stations are back on line.:ok_hand:

Hi @castalla

You were not imagining it. We had to do a little emergency patch early yesterday morning that affected about 300 stations in the system, NDR was included. That happened from around 06:00 to 07:30 UK time.

All back to normal now.

Ah-ha  thanks for the update. All AOK now.

Hi,

Trying to listen to a New Zealand radio station this morning called “The Breeze - Wellington”, however, the station is no longer playing and has been replaced with a repeated message that the URL has changed and needs to be updated - they provide https://www.rova.nz/stream for list of new streaming URLs.

Grateful if you could please update The Breeze and any other Rova stations impacted.

Thanks!

Hi @m_nz

Thanks for the heads-up. All corrected on this station + the rest of their network.

Can’t find this one

Hi @castalla

We have that one already. I’ve just improved the metadata so it can be found with its abbreviated and full name.

See:

In the brand view we have their full selection of stations:

Thanks so much.

Radio Blues is conecting, but not playing anything. (So I guess it’s an issue on their end).

As that was going on I just browsed the Hidef section and found a couple of other issues while trying out stations unknown to me:

  • Progressieve Rock: not connecting at all
  • Violent Forces Radio (both variants): no song info

And something that might well have been suggested before, why is there no flag/report button in the app? Not every user will be on this forum.

Hi @n-lot

Re: Radio Blues
They are just broadcasting silence. On their website its not working as well. Nothing that Naim can do about that:

Re:Progressive Rock
This seems to be working, assuming we’re talking this station:

(Note - it no longer deserves to be in the hidef section as they have reverted to mp3 320kbit)

RE: Violent Forces
Their streams contain no metadata, so we cant show it.

Why no report button on the app?
Typically most issues need 2 way feedback with the customer, and only a small fraction of feedback that we get results in a system content change (most common: can’t find a station but it exists, issues upgrading old products/not resaving presets. generic network issues, expecting something that the station doesn’t broadcast, trying to listen to geoblocked station, access to a unlicensed pirate station).

Currently we provide 2 way feedback here and also via our helpdesk. The app could raise a ticket via our helpdesk system though.

Indeed that one, but it still doesn’t work for me. If I press play on it, it immediately stops again without anything having played.

Hi @n-lot

The station had put a bad redirect on their stream using script. It works in a browser, not on a playback engine.

Have corrected that station and also found a new lossless link for it.

Thanks for the report. Annoyingly these type or changes can get through our station scanner as it’s playing with the internal differences of playback engines on if it will play or not. We need a redirection link compliance checker as well.
