New Rega ND9 MM cartridge

Could be of interest to those with Rega turntables and not wishing to go for MC phono stages….

£695 in UK vs £580 for Ania.

Is it on Rega’s homepage? Or somewhere else?

Available when? I just got ND7 delivered but yet not installed so could change if so.

From launch the Nd9 will be available as a factory fitted option mounted on the Planar 8 turntable at a discounted rate, a customer saving of £111.00. Nd9 price: UK SSP £695.00, Planar 8 turntable / Nd9 factory fitted – UK SSP £2554.00. (The Ear)

Got it - it’s on The Ear’s front page

Also on the Rega site.

The at a glance usp is that the Nd9 has a boron cantilever.

interested how that would compare with say a Hana EH in terms of the ND7 and SH to the ND9

I never came on with Ania, surprised they haven’t discontinued it. Nd7 would be preferred IMO (if not Ania Pro).

Hana EH was a true disappointment, never been a fan of the HO MC’s. I’d even pick a Nd5 anyday of the week.

I went ahead and installed ND7 on my P8. It tracks very well and is also very silent. Break in has just started but out of the box I’d say it’s on the warm/smooth side of neutral right now (comparing to my digital setup).

FYI: the Rega Ania is discontinued, Ania Pro is still available

Same, P8 + ND7 =

I have a P3rs which I could resell close to what I paid for it meaning the P8/Nd9 would set me back £1800. I’m sorely tempted but truth be told I love my RS and more importantly my wife loves how it looks. She hates the skeletal look of P8 upwards.

I’ve noticed a slight hum when my P8 + ND7 arm gets closer to the spindle and I lift it up. If I move the arm from track one agains the spindle it is clear the hum increase closer to the spindle. Not audible when playing though. But, I’ve just watched Roy Gandy say it is an intentional design “flaw” since they don’t want to shield their cartridge since a shield remove musicality.

Intentional design flaw? Sounds like BS to me. One thing a turntable needs is a lack of noise, be that electrical or mechanical. Maybe Roy needs to move his motor ?

I believe it’s more a cartridge design flaw to be honest now being properly shielded. Many might remember this issue using Rega Exact. There are 100s of threads related to this “issue” mainly with Rega cartridges.

I also get the little pop from the speaker when turning the power supply off (sometimes). But that’s also things you have to accept living with Rega  At least the motor is dead silent, the platter is not leaning, the arm leveller works and the noise level overall is very low. Still happy

The P6/RB330/dv 10x5mk2 my daughter has connected to “her” nait 50 ( not via the phono input) makes that nice pop when switched on/off. As does my Mcintosh headphone amp. Bit annoying for expensive kit

Actually nearer £1600 to get the P8/Nd9. Gawd I’m tempted. I’m sure she’d get to love it in time🤣

P8 plus Nd9 comes at a discount of £111 if you buy them as a bundle.

It’s because rega don’t do a separate earth terminal

I tried everything to get rid of it… in the end I tried a technics turntable which had an earth terminal and any hum stopped entirely
