New Rega ND9 MM cartridge

First off, how are you feeling? Better I hope. How’s your P8/ND9 setup holding up?

Based on this thread, I swapped my ND7 for an ND9 on my P6. It is substantially better, really special. Fuller, more of a thereness. And of course the ND7 is excellent. Totally worth the bump, really a no brainer.

I wish you hadn’t said that :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I have an ND7 on the P8 which is already excellent, but when I buy the ND9 Rega will release the ND11…

After my first session with the newly fitted Nd9—following my experience with the Nd7—I immediately sat up straight, thinking I had cranked up the volume by mistake. I hadn’t; it was pure, detailed resolution. Now, after a week in hospital and some recovery time, I’ve finally managed to sit down for a good listen.

First up, the Nd9 has brought a breath of fresh air to every record I’ve played so far. The only words I can think of to sum it up are “a brilliant sparkle.” My wife and I have been listening to The The’s Soul Mining, singing along to every track, playing air drums to “GIANT,” and chanting along—just brilliant fun. It’s so musical, foot-tapping fun and has sent shivers down my spine more than a few times.

I don’t have the money for expensive reference HiFi, but I do think I’ve managed to hit the entry-level reference sweet spot with what I’ve cobbled together so far.

Straight into SN3? I upgraded from built in phono in my Nait 50 to Gold Note PH-10. Major upgrade with ND7 and P8 :+1:

Hi yes playing straight into my Supernait 3 built in phono and using a HiCap Dr. still running in the Nd9 early days yet.

I think you are spot on within ranges i.e the ND9 is better than the ND3 but they share so much DNA it’s not night and day. The old Rega Elys wasn’t very good when it launched and that was ages ago. It’s direct replacement is the ND3 and the difference is night and day. I can count the bad products Rega have made on the digits of one hand and the Elys is on four with the Bias occupying the other one.

New Rega teaser on Instagram does look very much like a new phono stage in addition to the new turntable. Whatever it is, apparently it will be at Bristol.

At first glance though the pixelated image of the turntable looks like it’s the more the P6 and below style rather than the skeletal top of the range ones.

Perhaps changing from the skeletal back to traditional for the ‘top of the range’.

That would make them a lot more appealing for many who deem the skeletal as fugly :joy:

Yeah, the new P9 or P12 for those not wanting Skeletal but a better arm, bearing etc..

The new phonostage is called Aos or Aeos, nicely in IO cabinet, MM or MC only, replace Aria. Priced around €2K.

That would seem to go against their whole turntable design ethos though.

I very much doubt my ‘perhaps’ would be true!

We’ll see soon enough, but my guess would be a P6-RS with ND7, and a new Aria.

Makes sense, the P3-RS with ND5 is a big hit, so was the recently discontinued Aria version.
