New service and repair costs?

So Naim would never seek to charge in excess of the standard repair prices, even if it were a major repair exceeding the ‘standard’ cost?

That is correct (with the proviso, yet again, that these are suggested prices: the retailer bills the customer, not Naim).

I understand a lot of work has gone into working out these guideline prices based on the service and repair team’s historical workload.

OK, that seems very reasonable.

I must be getting old as my reaction to those prices was “how much!”

I bought into Naim through the sound and coped with the cost knowing it could be serviced for a long time giving great lifetime value.

Let’s hope once the supply chain and demand sorts itself out a more reasonable servicing costs can be offered.

I guess luxury items always come at cost to maintain…… certainly will make me think about recommending to people I think would love the Naim sound…

Thanks for posting costs, useful to plan in and save up in advance!

Naim are sending a clear message.
Send us your naim gear, but it will be at a cost going forward. Most OEMs that supply new and also cover aftermarket ( service/repair) do the same.

Porsche will service your 1985 911 Turbo ( if you’ve not driven into a ditch). Or you can go to a local specialist. But of course the " specialist" may not use OEM spares, tools, instructions, trained " work performers" with the correct behaviours.

But your official Porsche dealer should offer all the above. But at a cost that makes the buggeration of working on a 35 year old machine worth it for him.

Same for naim.

My day job regularly brings me into contact with OEMs that run a service centre that is ready to keep my power station plant overhauled to their standards.
The older the kit, the higher the price tends to be.
I’m paying for them to keep their staff SQEP.

I currently have a HiCap which I was thinking of having serviced and upgraded. If I understand the price list correctly this would cost £1299, however the price of a new HiCap DR is £1599. I can see there is a bigger delta for upgrades on the other products but only £300 between an upgrade and a new HiCap doesn’t seem to make sense.

And…you would be better off buying a new one… Crazy… IMO…

Yes and if you register your new Hicap with Naim you would have a 5 year guarantee!

Even before the current prices it’s never really made sense to DR an existing Hicap rather than buying a new one. Just buy a new one and sell the old one for as much as possible.

Indeed. For that price i would want everything bar the casing and tranny changed, regardless. I suspect the labour costs are high, which is understandable.

I suspect that is exactly what happens.
Reality is, you buy a separate hcdr and flog the hc. And that is what naim wants you to do too.

That is exactly what happens … I was told the same goes for the NAP 250

Thank you for publishing these. I find it all very expensive to be honest. A few years ago I had a failed resistor in one channel of a Nait XS - 10p(?) .
Whilst I can understand with fixed price system It could have been a whole board I found £300 + couriers high
This would now be £399 if it was serviced too the cost now would be £679.
(I don’t know if it was serviced when it was repaired.)
On a range of kit a service and repair may well be uneconomic relative to actual value and that seems to be contradictory to naim’s excellent aim of repairing kit that was older.(My nait xs was about only 8 years old when it needed a repair tho)

Why not ask directly your dealer? He should normally ask Naim about the details of the repair and associated costs.

Simon, I think that’s a conversation you should have with your dealer.

It’s almost as if the most sensible advice is to speak with one’s dealer

I just basically paid the approximate resale value of my UQ1 having it serviced and upgraded, plus a new screen. For the same reasons I used to like running nice, but older cars, (mostly old Audis) I have no regrets at the cost. The device is transformed, and I’m sure good for many more years of service as a result. YMMV.

Given the price of NAIM gear and the dealer margins, they can afford to take care of their customer when it comes to mailing some gear back to the manufacturer/distributor. Having said that, my local dealer isn’t worth the air he breathes and wants to charge me $150 just to bring it in the door (plus any mailing costs). Needless to say, as there are no other (Classic) dealers within a Day’s drive, I deal directly with the repair facility and bypass this dealer completely.
