Picked up a pair of Dyn Contour Legacy speakers today.
I had previously heard them at a demo day, and right then knew they were the natural progression from my Heritage Specials.
Obviously there’s a lot of running in to do, but man, to my ears they’re great.
The HS were really good little speakers and punched well above their weight, but the CL’s are a big step up.
Excellent. They look like lovely speakers, and with a 552/500 driving them you’ll be hearing them at their best. Lots of good listening ahead for sure.
Thanks HH… I think I’m pretty much there now - my 3 year journey from 202/200/NDX to my current system has been fast by some standards, but I’m really pleased with what I’ve got.
My local dealer also showed me a Statement Pre he’s got for sale.. Think I’ll need a lottery win to go there!
I don’t quite know how Dyn have done it but the CLs are just phenomenal.
The detail in the top end is incredible..
Mid range, well I’m hearing a texture I’ve never truly appreciated before.
Pianos and strings, it’s almost as though the musicians are in the room.
Vocals likewise..
I can’t quite get the bass where I want it.. still experimenting with placement and bungs. But it seems to be evolving.
It’s as though my system has finally crossed a magical line.
I realise this will have limited interest with only 52(?) pairs in the U.K.
but I feel very lucky to have 0035 in my possession.
I’ve heard the Contour Legacy at my dealer and they are stunning. If they had been around when I upgraded my Contour S3.4 I might have gotten them, instead of the Confidence C2 Platinum I have. But I am really pleased it went that way. The C2s are amazing too, and still better from what I can tell.
I get that, but me it’s the one thing that doesn’t really fit the aesthetic of my system, whereas my piano black C2s do. But that’s just personal taste. The speakers are fantastic. Wait until they break in. Those Esotar tweeters take about 300 hrs or so before they really come into their own.
The Esotar3 tweeters are the problem. They really need a lot of time, and if they are anything like the Esotar2 in my C2s they have periods during break-in sounding awful, mixed with periods sound awesome. Eventually they settle down to stay at awesome.
4 weeks in and the run in is pretty much complete..
I’ve been streaming David Bowie ‘let’s dance’ album this morning.. and I’ve been grinning like a loon. Just superb..
My wife does not like the looks of red wilson sabrina x, but will approve the contour legacy or spendor 1/2, or 7.2, maybe 9.2. Looking for musical speakers, with full range. 15k us tops. However the new speaker has to be a furniture grade wood box. No larger than the 9.2. Any suggestions welcome
Mine are really opening up now.. it’s almost like a 3D experience - great sound stage, with much more, well I was going to say depth, but actually its like some parts of the music are more forward in the soundscape.. It’s a bit like standing on stage with the band LOL.
I loved my HS, but the CS have been a real eye opener.
I am also considering the CLs, HS owner here. Would you say that there’s anything you are missing from the HS? One of the things that they do incredibly well in my space is the 3D soundstage, which is very wide and they completely disappear. Larger speakers are typically not as good at this magic trick as standmounts, hence the question.
I know exactly what you mean. The HS were brilliant in that respect, and you lose nothing with the CL’s. In fact, to my ears and in my listening space, they are even better.
Sound stage is more 3D and wider again.. The mids are really good and the bass extension adds so much more to everything. The Esotar 3 sounds amazing too…
The wise heads will rightly say get a demo, but if you like the HS, I think you’ll love the CL.
I was afraid that this would be your answer… I REALLY like the HS and I have demoed standmounts at multiple times their price in my space. No contest. Oh well, it’s almost Xmas as they say.
I think there are still a few pairs available.
Give Acoustica in Chester a call, they did me a great trade in on my HS which made the cost to change a bit easier..
