New Speakers day (Dynaudio Contour Legacy)

Yes my dealer has a pair left and I am planning to audition next week. I do hope I find something wrong with them. I have aggressively tuned my system with the HS, new speakers can send you down a whole new journey with the rest of the system and I am not ready for that at all!

Ahh now I see you’re located across the pond..

I just plugged mine in and changed nothing.

Dynaudio rates both the Heritage Special and Contour Legacy 3 db down at 42 hz. Are you sure you’re getting more bass extension and not just more bass?

Potato / Pot-a-to

I now hear bass notes I’ve never heard before - so from my perspective its extension

@CatalystV12V

Yep just pulled the trigger on the Contour Legacy which I had on demo.

They sounded superb with my 282 / 250 / HICAP/ P8 etc but clearly they are more than capable of fantastic reproduction in a better system.

Extremely happy. I was comparing them against my Wilson Benesch Arcs which I’ve had for over 15 years and which I cherish but the Dynaudio’s were just better in every regard.

Hopefully I don’t get in trouble for mentioning that as ever I had superb service by Acoustica .

@gk_audio I’d be very surprised if you weren’t massively impressed by the Contour Legacy.

Good luck.

Congrats Nick - I’ve had mine for 3 months now and the thrill of them hasn’t worn off at all.

Happy listening!!

Pretty sure I posted this before…

I demoed Heritage Special extensively and while they have their merits, I didn’t like them that much. They are fast and clear with superb imaging, but I feel they are tipped up and indeed fatigue inducing to my ears.

Contour Legacy takes everything you love about HS but smooths the sound out over a wider frequency range with sweeter mids and substantially better bass without losing anything you love about HS. That Esotar3 veil-lifting magic is in both! Contour Legacy is simply instant toe-tapping magic!

Coming from Contour 20/Special Twenty Five, HS was not worth the price of admission. Even at $14k US, CL punches way above its weight and plays better to my ears than Confidence 20 and Confidence 30! Whether I have $14k to spend on speakers is a different matter…

Buy CL now, if you still can.

Well done sir. Fantastic speakers, IMO. Very, very happy with mine. Had them for over a year now. I had them too close to the front wall to begin with <25cm) and double plugged the rear ports but soon removed the plugs once they started to loosen up. Now 50cm from wall completely unplugged the ports and toed them in so that I can just see the inner side of each box from my listening position. Complemented by a pair of REL Carbon Specials. They really do sound very nice. (Cables: Epic XL 6m from 300DR, REL bass line blues 4m attached to speakers (not amp) via spades).

Did you notice any audible hiss with the Naim electronics, given the much higher sensitivity of the CLs?

@gk_audio , no

I can hear a hiss only when I put my ear right next to the tweeter - otherwise no.
It was the same with the HS too - but from what I’ve read this is normal.

I spent a couple of hours auditioning the CL side by side with the HS. I couldn’t believe the bass impact difference. The HS is no slouch but the CL had incredible impact in a largeish room. I’m puzzled that they are rated the same at -3b… Now I’m a bit worried that they might overpower my small to medium room and make things boomy, I don’t have a lot of placement flexibility. And by “a bit” worried I mean I ordered them and I’ll have to find out for myself.

I thought you’d be impressed.

I had the same concern about room size, as my room is pretty small, but much to my relief they work really well.

It is possible to overpower my listening space, but I can still go pretty loud before this happens..

I have a a bit of room treatment that helps.

I toe in a bit and I’m place them about 30cm from wall. In a larger room that could really let them breath, I imagine they would sound even better.

From my experience, there was no downside.

Hope that helps.

Hi there,

Yesterday I could (with some luck) lay my hands on a pair of contour legacy. After three years listining to the HS, this was the next step a had in mind. After a short demo by the dealer with only a nova unity, it came very quick clear to me…. a big step forward from the HS! More bass, and more important: a lot of control! Midrange very sweet and easy to listen to with a very big soundstage. Really impressive!

At home it all fel in place, this is a really fine speaker. Although my room is not that big (25m2 with a kitchen 18m2 in L-shape) they fitt in well. No big problems with placement and the bass is not too much.

I’m very glad they are standing in my room.:slightly_smiling_face:

I read in another thread that you are using a NC300 series with your CL? That’s 375W through them! Are they coping with half a horse power when they are rated at 200W? Just interested to know as this is my ultimate end goal. just acquired the NS333 and NPX 300 in place of my NDX2/XPSDR. A major uplift. Next is the NAC 332 with NPX 300. Aimng to keep my 300DR for a bit though….

That’s right. I find that the CLs, like the HS I owned before, really open up with more power. I used to own the 300DR before I moved to NAP350s. The low end was a big improvement with more power. Of course, this was with HS which are less sensitive, so you might find that the CLs are very well served by the 300DR. For now

Finding the correct speakers was the most difficult thing for me at one time I think I had 5 pairs at home then I bought a used set of Excite 32’s and after a year traded them for Contour s3.4 that was 8 or 9 years ago.

They shouldn’t work the room they are in is only 16msq, sat on suspended floors driven by a Supernait 2 but they are just right for me give them a decent signal to play and they never falter.
