I originally had mine about 12 inches from the back wall but noted a modest improvement by moving them out another foot.
I’ve recently moved my entire room around to see how it affects the sound , see this post :
It’s made a diffence for sure, I hate the layout but I’m enjoying the sound improvements.
I considered trading them in too but I have still got my HS because I adore them and regard them as a very special heirloom to pass on to my kids/grandkids…..something that special is a rare thing. The CL are another heirloom! Definitely keeping them too.
I am also starting to regret trading in my HS when I got the CLs! They are indeed a very special bookshelf. Question for the owners of both (@Nicholas @CatalystV12V ) - did you find CL darker than HS? Also what specific changes did you notice during break in, were there many fluctuations?
Hi @gk_audio
I think the biggest difference was the sound stage and the separation. But I found the sound to be familiar too, in terms of its evolution from the HS.
As I believe I said before, there ws just more of everything I loved about their smaller brother.
I cant say i ever found them to be ‘darker’.. but the bass is definitely stronger.
In terms of running in, I thought they settled very quickly, I seem to remember some sibilance to begin with while the Esotars bedded in, but now the top end sounds amazing, well to my ears anyway.
Not sure if that helps in anyway.. ![]()
Thanks, I was trying to collect datapoints. That closely mirrors my experience, more of everything, including holographic soundstage and low end impact. I have a good friend who purchased one of the last pairs in the states and is finding them darker during the first few days of playback. I suspect he will not feel that way a few weeks down the line, I certainly didn’t.
Definitely not darker, their clarity, soundstage and tonality in all frequencies is really quite enchanting! My wife despairs at the amount of time I spend completely absorbed by my system!!
I have just upgraded the excellent NDX2/XPSDR to NSS333/NPX 300 which has allowed them to really sing. I am amazed because I didn’t expect this level of improvement and I am about to upgrade to NAC332/NPX300 (from the brilliant NAC252/SCDR) as I have read that that should be a definite upgrade in SQ too. Again, how much better can it get??
In summary, the CL are a speaker that are able reveal ‘the music’, and they obviously clearly appreciate a purer source. They are a wonderful creation by Dynaudio! ![]()

I was about to go to bed last night and thought, I’ll just listen to some Donald Fagen, spent the next hour glued to the Sofa LOL ..
Let us know how you get on… where are you based?
They will stay silently in their boxes for a while. But will move to the Isle of Wight at some point over the coming months.
Well you have a lot to look forward to.. ![]()
I’m surprised that they’re still available in the UK, but then again I suppose they’re pretty Niche..
I’d completely agree with your analysis/ review.
There’s definitely no “darkness “ with my pair just a beautiful, accurate open sound stage and overall sound.
