Not too long before I retired I attended a mess dinner on board HMS Victory, courtesy of some naval/MoD colleagues. Fascinating evening ending in rounds of port and preceded by a full guided tour. The dinner was in one of the big mess decks at the aft end - must have been just above or below Nelson’s cabin.

Not quite. I was coming from Greenwich via the tunnel, past Island Gardens DLR, then past Mudchute DLR station. But these views can start to look the same. The colours really were that punchy early in the morning.

Ah, we used to have Friday lunch and beer at a pub down at Island Gardens.

My old office was blown up by the IRA just a few weeks after I left for another job…. interesting days, life is very different back in New Zealand.
