if your schedule permits, the sky mirror in Kuala Selangor is well worth the visit. Its around an hour ride from the city centre to the jetty. From the jetty, approx 25 mins boat ride to the sandbar (low tide) in the middle of the sea. Enjoy.

I was working a very physical job at the time and stopped briefly for a breather. It looks cold but actually it was very mild. I remember wishing I could just jump in instead of getting back to work.

Thanks, already moved on however. Now on an Island further up the Malay coast. Lovely place. However a bit rainy and thundery just now! This was earlier on arrival.

Did you take your decent camera? We’re off to Asia, (including Borneo) in the summer and cant decide whether to take my mine or just stick with the phone given the humidity and number of internal flights with just cabin luggage etc

I can picture myself sitting outside and having a beer. I’m from not too far away in Essex originally and I do miss that part of the world especially the coast and estuaries.

Pangkor Laut, lovely. Hope you get some nice shots of the “resident” hornbills .

I have. Pretty much every pic posted here, bar the macaque, is with the phone for convenience.

The phone remains great for grab shots or if I’ve not got camera with me. But yes I brought camera and three lenses, 24-70, 14-35 for city and landscape. Also brought my 70-200 for the next few days with some wildlife in the island…

Have this great bag made by Think Tank, camera gear stows neatly at the bottom and top half is free for other stuff and it’s a roll top too.

Only had phone on me for pic of my breakfast guest.

Yes indeed. Have you been?

Yes, a few years back. Make sure you don’t leave things outside cos the monkeys could take those as souvenirs :joy:

Not seen any here yet. Apparently they’re more around the hill villas and in the jungle. Perhaps when we go in the jungle trek…

Loving the bat tree though.

We’re currently snoozing at Emerald Bay, not the worst beach we’ve been to, and watching Sea Eagles ride the thermals above.

I remember the bat tree. Quite large fruit bats I think. The jungle walk as I remember it was hot sweaty and you need a generous amount of mozzie repellent. Enjoy!

Was there any wildlife to accompany you?

Only other tourists. Worth doing only to get a sense of how humid and hot it can be in what is some fairly tame hotel jungle. I came away with a lot of respect for soldiers who fought under such conditions. Depends on the weather you are having, but I went from initially giggling at those with long sleeves and proper trousers to thinking I really wish I wasn’t wearing shorts.

Why’s that then? Mozzies? Scratchy undergrowth?

Mozzies. But you could be there in different conditions or better weather. I am a cheapskate so would only drag my family there when it’s at its most humid and room rates are lower

Tbf, on the whole trip it’s been very warm but not stupidly hot and humid. I did do a bit of research beforehand and think we got it right. I say we, the trip is a birthday present for my wife…
