From a climb I did last Friday, during a brief lull in the strong winds the mountains have been experiencing. Despite the reduced wind speeds on the tops, it was cold enough to remind me that winter is still very much about. With another relatively calm day forecast tomorrow, I’m planning a bigger expedition to attempt a pair of Corbetts on Loch Arkaig.

Walking along the edge of a bit of island jungle, I thought I saw some slightly lighter green. Adjusted my position a little and saw this toxic beauty waiting for someone to do something stupid.

A Green Pit Viper.

This pic was taken the day after I first saw it, it had barely moved over 24 hours, apart from turning round to stare at me.

Seems to have to be very provoked to strike but if bitten, one may wish to just lightly dab some TCP on the bite apparently…

Due to a revision of the weather forecast (for the worse) I decided to scale back my ambition for yesterday from a very long two Corbett day, to a shorter single Corbett day. It turned out to be the right decision, the wind blowing around 40mph when I summited at 11:15, with the expectation for it to increase substantially as the day progressed.

A pair of cranes deciding that it is way too close for comfort. Thankfully, the sun was hidden allowing for the delicate tones too shine instead.

Known as the 7 Sisters near where I live, even though there are only 5 now. The mound is an ancient burial mound marked by Beech trees sitting on Copt Hill, dating back to the Mesolithic period.
