lol … you will have the whole day w them ![]()
I tried a Hemidall 2 ethernt cable…it ‘sounded,’ bass heavy and ‘sluggish’…absolutely contrart to the usual Nordost sound.
Was it already run in @jlewis? That would make a huge difference. At first I was kind of shocked with my Frey 2 interconnect, then after a couple of weeks it became fantastic. At the beginning it was “bass heavy” too and resolution was poor.
Heindall 2 has more emphasis on bass .. that’s the character of the heindall, give it a break in of 50-70 hours , it will settle down and reveal the mid and high , and control the low.. in short , a very down to earth cable w good balance. However , the low will be more , but very control . Most of the demo cables from dealers are hardly run in , unless they use the nordost run in box (forgot what it’s called ) for a good 50 hours . Believe me, it won’t disappoint . Tried many cables of the same range, heindalls shines.
I brought some nordost cables to try on linn seleckt, and the klimax, as the dealer trying to sell me he’s cable that pairs well w linn, before deciding on dCS,
And the nordost shines , a very different sound , but more of everything .. and he did not pester me anymore on the cables. So from this demo and discussion, we did talk about the pros and cons of both cables , and we agreed that the Nordost cables can also bring out the linn products.
BTW, nordost will never give you the organic sound that one is looking for. They are more on the neutral side.
The Norse series one tends to be brighter .
BUT the series 2 are more balanced,
And it’s the fastest cable in the market . The attack is unrivalled, so to speak .
Congrats to your frey 2!!! My favourite beside the Valhalla 2. A very well balanced cable!!
VERY well run in. I will admit to being sensitive to tonal imbalances and my speakets do ‘do’ bass, very accurately (of course, I would say that as I use space optimisation).
True story! The device you are talking about is the Vidar.
Thank you @naimophile, I thought I did tell you about it. I bought it last year and I’m very, very pleased with it. It was a real revelation and a game changer in my system. Now I do understand what the Norse series is all about, fantastic resonance control and excellent details across the whole range. The 3D like feeling is damn good too. Sooner or later I would like to upgrade my other cables and get more Norse ones, I just need to decide whether it’s the speakers’ cable or the power cord. Time will tell ![]()
@jlewis audio perception is of course very personal. When I changed and upgraded cables, I also had to tweak the system too. I hardly understand a product at first glance. Surely you get a general idea, but you won’t fully deep dive into all its nuances.
I love the heimdall 2 power chords
I think i have 5 in my system now. For the time being will resist the temptation to try Frey or Tyr.
Your Valhalla setup is just stunning! Congrats and enjoy every second of music with them
Thank you .. haha .. wow 5 you have !! Frey and tyr calling you !! ![]()
Many questions i have ![]()
Master, how do frey and try power chord compare to Ansuz?
Frey = A3 and Tyr = C3 ? Surely, observed these in open battle you have
Haha I am no master ..
ansuz 3 series are organic , more on low and easy to accept and listen to .
Nordost , Frey2 , tyr 2 are lightning fast , very transparent, digging out any micro details one can find in a recording . They too have good low but are controlled , spot on low.
If you like very transparent , fast , dynamic , airy sound , Nordost
If you like organic , easier on high mid and low , but not too micro detailing , ansuz.
Frey 2 and tyr 2 are very good in the mid, tyr has more low . Very good for detailing and transparency I would say, and easy to live with , non fatigue listening for both. If heindall 2 power cord which you do have, works well, then frey2 and tyr 2 are higher in every specs. The attack on these 2 are frightening.
C3 has more detail and slam as compare to A3 . I heard more of C3 than A3, so can’t really say much about A3.
C3 sound good w pop/new age music , A3 I can’t commend , very limited listening I had w it.
I had owned all Norse 2 power cords , IC, speakers cables before , all have significant improvements as you go up the tiers . I personally like Frey 2 speaker cables and interconnects , very natural , very comfortable sound it gives .
Hope this helps !! Cheers ![]()

Sorry about calling you Master. You more like a Norse God; Thor i would say
you hammered it.
Very very helpful thank you!
Maybe you can try a higher tier main power cord to your ansuz conditioner ? Let the rest of your power cords feed on it ? As shown in the pic , the tyr 2 feeding the rest of the power cord ?
Having a good high tier power cord from the main gives you optimal strength .
This is the first step I did for power cord . The result has the best outcome .
I have the Valhalla 2 feeding the rest of my Valhalla 2s..
My initial start -Frey 2
Then to Tyr 2.
Every step has very good improvement, feeding the main block.
Very cool pics! Yeah, I am thinking about that a lot. Currently a 3m A3 is feeding the A3 powerdistributor and i like it. Therefore, i will probably upgrade the interconnects first, from Vertere Redline to Frey2 or Tyr 2, or may be Ansuz. I like the Vertere cables too but it seems difficult to find them used. But before that, still working on switch setup ![]()
@naimophile How much better was the Valhalla 2 power cables vs Tyr2 and lesser?
I currently have all Heimdall2 power cables and the QB8 mk 3 block.
Next step will be upgrade from wall to distribution block, which they say has the most impact. So I will probably skip Frey and go one or two rungs higher for this position.
It’s on steroid , I can say it’s end game cable. Unless one wish to go for Odin 2… And both Valhalla and Odin uses hollow plug . U can google nordost on the hollow plug, all inhouse .
Go for the Valhalla 2 if within your means , You wont want to plug it out. Tyr 2 is no where near the Valhalla 2, which (Frey 2 , tyr 2) already 2 of the best cables one can own .
@Emrah and @naimophile you made my day! ![]()
@naimophile now nobody will know how to call you from now on!
Jokes apart, you are spot on, I also noticed that the attack with Frey 2 is frightening as you rightly described. I noticed that particularly on Hiromi’s Out There album. Her attack on the piano is violent at times, but that’s exactly how she is on the stage. When I heard it with the Frey 2 for the first time I was amazed. You can feel her power and soul coming alive through the Hi-Fi system. Just wow.
Out of curiosity, if you had to buy a powercord and a speaker cable, would you go for Frey 2 or Heimdall 2? I excluded Tyr 2 on purpose, I know it’s better.
If you can’t try all the possible combinations, I wonder if going for all Frey 2 cables would get you a lighter sound, loosing some power and fullness with bass.
Go for the frey 2 , it’s the sweet spot . I still retain my Frey 2 SC . As you can see from my pic.. they are too good to let go in my system , (and in any nordost set up system) until my Valhalla 2 comes..
No , Frey 2 won’t make you lose any low nor lighter sound.
If anyone is to ask me, I would say- Frey 2 are the sweet spot in nordost . You have one, you know it ![]()
Thank you @naimophile!
That says a lot about how good the Frey 2 is. Indeed I’m very, very happy with it and didn’t expect it to be that good, it really is. I’m glad to hear that I won’t loose anything, that was my concern about choosing these kind of cables. When the right time comes, I’ll start upgrading my already good and faithful Nordosts.
I’ve always wondered where the sweet spot is, I thought you would have said the Tyr 2.
