One step forward: ER +lpsu

You are in for a treat and the wait will be well worth it!

Thankyou, and you take care. It is surprising as Uptone play down the need for a psu, even though they make a couple themselves.
Looking at the Paul Hynes website they are having covid problems and have cut the production team down and are expecting an island wide lockdown. You got yours just in time.
One question, what dc cable did you purchase?

Hi Michael, thank you for passing on the dreadful news . This probably means that I will have to buy 2: one for the ER and one for the opticalRendu.

In the meantime, I have two sets of Wave High Fidelity BNC cables coming for us to try between the M Scaler & DAVE, the Stream and the Storm.

Delighted that the new power supply is bringing you even better music.

Best regards, BF

I believe it was positioning - firstly they have applied good quality regulation onboard with LT3045 regulators, but more important they were launching and asking $640 for a 5-port Network Switch, which many will, have and continue to question & scoff at. If it was a case that it was $640 for the switch which requires a $435 Power Supply, this would of made it worst with a $1,000 spend requirement.
Personally, my ER dropped in last November using an existing 12v LPS and I have not looked back since, with my Roonified NDS, Chord Sarum Tuned Streaming, Chord Athem & AudioQuest Vodka cables - it has never sounded better.

I bought the 0.2m Silver cable, Gazza and I am using a spare Powerline Lite mains lead.

Thanks Michael

May I check your opinion on cable path? You have ER -> Melco -> 555. I truly have zero knowledge as you may have seen from some questions I have posted in the Streaming Section! I have Cisco switch connected to the router. My NAS is connected back to the Cisco. The Cisco is connected to the ER. Here is where I may have this all wrongā€¦ I have connected my Innuos (Melco equivalent) to another ER port; and I have connected the ER to the 555. Would I be better off taking the main feed from the ER directly to the Innuos and then use the Innuos output to connect direct to the 555? Sorry if this is terribly obvious - I really havenā€™t got much of a clue about this stuff and find it a bit frustrating fumbling around in the dark!!

Peter

Yes.
If, like mine, your Innuos has a dedicated ethernet output for the streamer, the ER B side port should connect to your Innuos input ethernet port

Personally i would disconnect first the Cisco, if possible.
So the path would be Router > ER ( A side) > Innuos and ER ( B side) > Nd555
Or
Same , but Nd555 connected to the second Ethernet port of the Innuos.
I would try and choose the best sounding connection.
( with my Melco N1z2, I prefer Nds direct to Melco ethernet).

Yes Peter I would try exactly as described above, I used to run router Cisco 1 Cisco 2 Melco Nd555. Now I just run router to Cisco 1 feeding the general ethernet around the house to TVs Sky box etc and router to ER A then ER B to Melco then 555.
I have not experimented with other combos putting the ER between Melco and 555 etc but have gone along with what the consensus among most here is.
I am getting the best streaming sound I have ever had to date. I hope that helps.

Folks,

Thanks very much for your replies.

More lazy questions (answer may be try out for myself!)ā€¦ Is the Cisco effectively redundant and better to remove from the audio feed path, or does it provide any benefit? If redundant, would the configuration be router -> ER A port; NAS -> ER A port (or NAS -> Innuos second ethernet port?); ER B port -> Innuos; Innuos -> 555. Incidentally I have used Catsnake 6a cables throughout.

Peter

You have really answered the question yourself as you really have to try and see what works best for you. It was easy for me to take the feed from my Cisco to my ER out of the Cisco and plug it directly into my router as they are both in my office. So I am just using the ER in the audio chain. I am very happy with the sound and donā€™t feel inclined to change anything right now.

Entirely agree with MichaelF. For me things work best with no Cisco, but I have only one non-audio connection to the router. If I needed more ports, obviouslyā€¦ Definitely works best for me with all audio on EtherRegen A side and then B to ND555

That bnc connector for an external clock is bugging me already, and i have not got one yetšŸ˜

@Nestor_Burma how are you getting on with that clock you purchased recentlyā€¦much of an improvement?

The fact is that it is a difficult question. In short the answer is: clearly yes there is a very clear improvement to the sound. As a non native english speaker I often struggle with understanding the lyrics without reading them. Now after a few days warming (is it over) this is is an obvious improvement: everything is even clearer and more precisely delineated (who could have thought this possible) Never have I felt such a proximity to the singer. Now of courseā€¦this changes everything in the overall perceptionā€¦so need to get used; at this moment I feel Iā€™m missing some prat or swing in the lower frequencies: I also have an issue to fix with the isolation of my speakers (for which I will receive a missing part) hopefully this week. I removed the spikes for a wooden Charlin base so Iā€™m getting a much more natural and wide soundstage, the speakers disappearā€¦but maybe too much ethereal. Finally the burn in (clock and ultracap) may not be finished (better wait another week)! But clearly for 100$ (Repurposing the ultracap) this is a keeper. The question becomes to find the best integration in oneā€™s system. I will keep you posted

Thankyouā€¦your english is fine. That sounds like a good upgrade for the money. Thanks for the updatešŸ‘

Day two of the SR4T Power Supply + ER and I have just played through a few tracks I know really well, all I can say is wow this combo really works so well. There is a fantastic sense that the musicians are right there, vocals and instruments alike sound so realistic and a layer of hash that you didnā€™t even know was there was there before has gone.
Sorry Gazza!!!

Michael - can I ask which variant of the SR4T you ordered to go with your ER?

Yes, it is the SR4T-12 with a 0.2m silver DC lead with a 2.1mm plug.
If you email them and tell them you what you want to use it for i.e. an ER switch they will know exactly what you need.
I hope that helps.
