One step forward: ER +lpsu

Oh gawd! First we have a bake-off between switches, now we need a bake-off between linear power supplies to power those switches to get the best out of them.

Paul Hynes, Sean Jacobs, MCRU, Plixir, Uptone, geez the list goes on.

How do we sort this one out?

Agreed itā€™s a tough one to call Nigel. Those who have tried adding a linear power supply have found it beneficial but as to how they perform one against another would need a lot of resources to evaluate.

Indeed.

I believe the MCRU power supplies offer a money back guarantee, but the others seem more custom built/made to order. Any idea who offers a return policy.

Well being a simple type and Signals having Plixir in single and dual railā€¦i can borrow and return, price is reasonableā€¦if it goes wrong they get it back. But if it does not make a difference. Will try Paul Hynes as Michael has done. MCRU market against a specific product like ER but give no details on power output. Well thats my thinking so far.

Sounds like a plan.

I know @frenchrooster has the MCRU PS for his ER (although I see he has not updated his profile) and rates it more highly than a few other LPSs he tried previously.

Yes, its tempting at the price for the basic but really adds up when you get to the FR pinnacle level. I can get a dual rail plixir for thatā€¦but should i buy British nags at me?

I am pretty sure you can return the MCRU if you are not satisfied.

Might be worth checking their returns policy.

Whilst vastly more expensive than some of the options mentioned above I can say that the DC3 gave more of an uplift than the ER itself. On that basis, spending a bit more on the P/S will probably pay dividends. It does seem counter intuitive to pay so much for a P/S to power something small in size and relatively low value.

Why not spend it on new speakers instead?

You have no confidence in MCRU Nigel? You can ask them on their site, they respond quickly and will give you all technical numbers you want. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, you can return easily.
But if Nigel wants 2 rails, better perhaps go to DC3, or Uptone Js2. Mine costed around 850, but DC3 with Mundorph capacitors is twice the price I think to remember.

I might!

Dynaudio?

JBL??

Kudos?

Or evenā€¦Naim!

I would start with Kudos Titans, but I really do not relish the hunt for speakers, dodgy back and all that.

Oh, and there is the small matter of money!

Just letting the options spin around in my mindā€¦no ER until November, too much time on my hands, too many good options, inc mcru.

So good of you Gazza to do all the LPS testing for me!

Donā€™t mention itā€¦itā€™s all part of the fun, the build up, purchaseā€¦then the important bit, the music.

@Gazza how come November? I bought (another) one last week from Audiostoreā€¦

Yes, thatā€™s why you shouldnā€™t fritter loads of dosh on these silly non switching non switches!

Their website had the price going up and down, full of stock, then no stock, more arriving 26 Oct, then no infoā€¦happening from day to dayā€¦i got cold feet. I bought direct from Uptone, they ship on Oct 29th.
Oh and they did not reply to my email asking about the next batch due date when Uptone had a shipping dateā€¦that kind of finished them for me. Each to their own.
