Optimal SQ config for Innuos Zenith/Statement with ND555 and Roon (or not)

Dave

I’ll never know the answer to that theory - believe it or not I didn’t play back a single album. I probably should stop now with my confessions!

Peter

Hi Peter,

You, my friend, need some time off to devote to listening, enjoying and generally fiddling around with your truly epic system. Be selfish!

All the best
Dave

…Unless Innuos comes up soon with an update of the Statement integrating the new advances?

There’s always a possibility of that down the line: nothing is beyond improvement or stands still, though having a separate dedicated power supply obviously has its benefits, as does being able to use the faster ports on the Statement for bulk file transfer.

Nothing likes being above the 500PS - noisiest box. :skull_and_crossbones:

Well-done - been keeping an eye on your deliberations.

I take it that if staging these purchases then the PN first makes most sense, then the Statement?

Still happy roughing-it with my present config with ER switch and Melco for now, but nice to have a future audition plan when funds emerge. :bear:

DB.

Hi DB!

With your Melco, which you like, I’d say probably yes.

You could of course audition both out of curiosity and to be sure, but that can lead to an assault on the wallet the wallet as I discovered!

In my experience make sure that you use a good quality ethernet switch…I think the etherregen is highly regarded. In my system changing the switch had a phenomenal effect…

Michaelb,
what storage capacity do you have in your Statement?

I went for 4TB but it actually gives you only 3.4 available for your music library, so that’s worth bearing in mind, depending both on what you have now and whether you intend to grow it through Qobuz and the like or rips/downloads.

Thanks! I have 3TB already filled on my Melco…so the next Innuos would have 8TB …but that’s really expensive.

Hi Simon
Why do you use unbalanced interconnects?
Jim

These findings undermine the theory of Diminishing Returns in relation to hifi systems and emotional connection with music.

It seems to me that in hifi SQ and emotional connection with music there is rather a Law of Multiplying Returns.

I’m very pleased with the sound. It’s been a big moment for me, up there with discovering Naim and Shahinian in terms of musical pleasure and satisfaction.

I just looked at the Shahinian site.

Brilliantly written explanation of their design approach - especially the idea that all sounds in the universe radiate omnidirectionally and therefore speakers work better when they are designed to radiate omnidirectionally.

(Also, they are fans of Buckminster Fuller.)

I am more than a little intrigued.

Hearing some of these is now high on my list of fun things to do.

Thanks
Jim

The UK importer, John Burns of Pear Audio, is a fantastic entirely bullshit-free guy with good ears to boot. He should have an up-to-date list of local dealers on his site. But if not, just drop him a line.

this YouTube video of a Naim/Shahinian system is interesting

I expect your SQ is a wee bit ahead of this…

What is the rest of the system?
Sounds impressive, I would look for more than just sound, meaning does it sound musical? Does it do good imaging? Do you pin-point where the instruments, singer(s) are? Layering, prat? Do you feel non-fatigue after a long listening session (3 or 4+ hours)?

Always thought Shahinian were fascinating. Very musical. You could debate the imaging forever. Some will love it. Some really won’t. Where they’ve tended to lose in the last is with domestic acceptability.

Funnily enough my better half very much prefers them to the SL2s, never mind other speakers that do much more of the towering over you kind of thing.

The imaging is very real life rather than holographic.

The dealer left the room to get coffee during my Obelisk demo, so I indulged myself and merrily got up and wandered around the room and between the speakers. It was like walking around between the musicians in the jazz band - which is what was playing at the time.

Hi, I use balanced in my studio, but in my Hi-Fi setup I use unbalanced because the distances are small (<1m), the Hi-Fi environment is relatively low noise and for me I like the way my current unbalanced leads (DIY) make my system sound against the plethora of balanced patch leads I have.
