I bought the DL – 2023 remaster. After a few plays I think it is very nice sounding. I think I have heard things I haven’t before and the sound is nice and clear and seems to be a bit more spread out and 3 dimensional than I remember from the original LP, the 90s version, the immersion set, the 2011 master, the Dave Gilmour’s Dog’s Birthday remaster, the Roger Waters Had a Happy Day extremely rare special master and the Nick Mason is the Only One Doing Anything Sensible With the Saucerful of Secrets Band master. They really know how to make money out of the same material don’t they?

PS this 2023 master is nothing like as radical as the 2018 Animals master
Animals 2018 was a remix, I think 
Hence the radical…

Phew! Took the plunge an pressed ‘pre-order’ having heard many discussion points regarding here and elsewhere regarding the cost and the contents of this box set, i have to say that now, having received the box and gone through it I am delighted with it. Anyone else had doubts but changed their minds having received it?
I ordered the DSOTM Wembley ‘live’ LP and the ‘Animals’ remix LP, both of which turned uo late this afternoon. I’ll give them a spin tomorrow. (I hope that the ‘Animals’ pressing problems are well behind us.)
I can’t be doing with box sets of multiple outtakes and studio run-throughs. I want to hear what the artist(s) produced, not how they got there.

But there again, are remixes and remasters what the artist produced? Even if they are “better”?

That’s a deep one.
My take is that any remix or remaster is an attempt to get closer to what the artist(s) originally put down on tape in the recording studio… So anything that better reproduces the original take represents a closer insight into what the artist(s) laid down, and so would be welcomed by the artist(s).
I would add that there is more content & time in a recording from the various recording engineering people than the artist(s).
The recording engineer’s creative involvement can vary widely, with some also acting as producer and/or mixing engineer and/or operating the sound board.
The work will include preparing the room, sellecting & positioning microphones, setting up the recording desk plus plus etc etc.
In the case of most all rock/pop groups the engineer(s) record each instrument and vocal separately and often repeatedly, creating numbers of tracks to work with in the mixing process. The mixing engineers get input from the artist and producer, they edit with cuts from different takes, manipulating tone, intensity, timing & effects.
In the case of PF & the string (endless string sez some) of remixes & remasters) its just the same process & including input from the artist(s)

Has anyone got anything to report on SQ, mix differences etc. with the 50th Anni 2023 remaster.
I have a FLAC 192/24 from HighResAudio, but can’t play it for a serious listen as I away for the weekend.
The best £17.99 I’ll spend on music this year.
It is simply astounding. The only album to give me goosebumps while listening to it in many a year. I saw Floyd 3 years later in 1977 at the same venue on the Animals tour and this recording is so good it’s like I’m back there again!

My vinyl copy was flawed. So going back for a refund - CD ordered. But I’m intrigued - what is on the CD that’s not on the vinyl?

The “Wembley ‘74” CD runs to 55 minutes. My software shows this:
According to that fount of all knowledge - Wikiwotsit, the cuts on the LP version are to “Money”, “Any Colour You Like” (understandable as they contain the main “solos”), and “Eclipse” (not sure how they could cut the latter - there ain’t a lot of it to start with!)

I played the first side but was out of the room (visitor) for the end of the last track, which later I found had a nasty graunch right at the very end (last few seconds)…shame, it was great up to then.
And it sort of has been on CD, which is maybe what you meant…first set Crazy Diamond, Raving and Drooling and Gotta Be Crazy on Wish You Were Here Experience and Immersion Sets, second set Dark side on Immersion box set and now, and Echoes encore on The Early Years 1965-1972 Creation set. All marvellous stuff, albeit with the possible exception of Echoes which is maybe not the best version…

I’ve got the DSotM and WYWH Experience 2CD editions, DSotM Live 1974, and an, er, interesting flac of the other one…
Made up a “live album” from them. Two Hours ten minutes of pure magic, which on a good day - God and the South Circular willing - gets me from my home to daughter 2’s without repeats 
The SQ of DSotM Live 74, and indeed Animals, merely emphasises just what can be done with these half century old tapes.
And it’s such a shame that there seems to not be the same of the 1977 Animals tour. From bootlegs the extended versions of Pigs and Crazy Diamond second half would be something I would be very happy to pay for.

Yep Echoes was not on the 1977 tour. On the 74 tour encores but not a great version, but probably very enjoyable had you been there.
