Power Strip

The Wireworld Matrix 2 which I was using for the past 3 to 4 years had finally given up the ghost. Somehow, the position of few sockets inside the case has mysteriously shifted. As a result, the plugs now cannot go into the affected sockets.

It’s a rather basic construction when I opened the case to inspect.

Now, the interesting part. As a temporary solution I used a basic power strip which probably costs around £10. No lights, no filtering, no surge protection, nothing. I couldn’t tell the difference in sound quality between this one and the WW Matrix 2.

To anyone considering a quality strip, I would suggest getting something that’s considerably higher in quality than the Wireworld Matrix 2.

I tried a WW Matrix 2 Shuko version a few years ago. Same result, no worthwhile improvement over a standard 20 quid Brennenstuhl strip from the local hardware store. I don’t understand why the WW M2 is so well known in the audio world.

Looking at the black part at the top it’s another rack mount power distribution block rebadged like the one i purchased…only to learn a near identical one is available on an auction site for a 5th of the price

Well, it does have the words ‘OFC’, ‘Star*Wired’ and ‘Shielded’ stamped on the product.

Since Titan has 3 models of power strip, how to decide which is the right one based on the level of Naim products owned, with no chance to test?

the Styx is quite light on bass and sounds a bit harsch/flat in comparison to better blocks, have not heard the Nyx but have had the Eros which I liked a lot (as posted above), should perform very well with any level home system.

Try a Custom Hi-Fi Cables Powerblack power block from Sean Jacobs. Good quality components, star earthed and without a load of intermediate sockets…

It’s to power the Christmas tree. And you can even connect a microwave.

Could the design/internals have changed?

How have people powered theirs? I’m avoiding it now - it sounds worse with a full fat Powerline than a no-name IEC lead.

Could simply be a case of synergy with other things and it not sounding quite right for some of us.

I bought a Wireworld Matrix 3 or 4 years ago because it seemed to be flavour of the month on the forum, there were quite a few positive comments. I must admit there was no significant difference (I had a Musicline before), but I’m always suspicious of those “night and day” or “massive improvement” comments anyway.
I understand that the Wireworld is now clearly rubbish… what should I get that might be considered a “real” improvement ? Did you get your Titan Eros from a French dealer, @frenchrooster? Sorry if the question sounds a bit personal…

Hardly rubbish just seems to work for some, not others.

I took the plunge as I though it might be a sturdier slightly expensive powerstrip than cheap ones if it didn’t work out for audio duties

Will be interesting to see what FR thinks.

A few of the shutters on my WW Matix have jammed. Installing a plug is a bit notchy. I suspect the socket behind is not correctly aligned. I’ll swap it out when I redo some of my mains cables. Currently using a combination of powerline lites and some DIY ones. Currently looking at a Hydra for the naim gear.

No problem Sam. I get it from a UK dealer, online, with a possibility of 14 days test and return. It can be ordered with UK or Schukko plugs.
If you don’t see one, say me it.

I have not heard the Wireworld. So have no opinion. But read recently that another member didn’t heard a difference with it. But it certainly sounds better vs a 5 dollars microwave one.
I had the MPC melody before ( around 400 euros with a cable attached to it). It was already a very nice uplift vs the stock cheap Naim/ Musicline.
A really good power cord to the wall is also very important, even a bit more important vs the powerblock itself. So a powerline at minimum, I feel.
