I’m on the lookout for a new Shuko power strip too. It’s not easy to find a solid one with just good sockets and star wiring but without surge protection, filtering, switches, LEDs etc.
They might be ‘recommended’ by some forum folk.
I doubt very much they’re recommended by Naim. It might be a US/Canada dealer has done so, but not Naim.
Bottom line is Wiremold is a brand of a US company Legrand.
I realise your problem, from what I can see on internet, it’s either cheapo buss-bar (daisy chain) or the better quality with various filters. I like what I read with the Supra, it seems these use passive ferrite filtering, but also have ‘surge’ protection & suspect that’s with VDR’s.
There are some UK brands with no filtering, radial (star as you call it) wired setups and have Schuko socket options.
Eros do good shukko powerblock. I have the Eros Titan.
A shuko version of Mitchell’s Hydra can be bought.
I gave them a call, they made it for me and sent it by mail here to Poland.
Wireworld Matrix 2 is another, a well made item that doesn’t break the bank.
Yes, the Titan Eros is one of the few I liked on specs & construction.
But the form factor doesn’t fit my situation unfortunately. I want to mount the strip ‘on its side’ against the floor skirting behind my Fraim, with the plugs horizontal vs. upward. This allows for better cable dressing too. The pic gives an idea.
While this might look odd on the picture, under and close to the radiator, the strip and cables don’t get warm. The metal case of the strip gets lukewarm ‘at worst’ so no worries there. The distance between de radiator and the Fraim is more than 2 feet. Nothing warm there either.
For the same reason (placement), the mains inlet needs to be on the side of the strip. My current power strip ticks all the boxes construction wise but it’s more than 20 years old and the sockets slowly start to loose their tension. Time for a new one.
I’ll find one I’m sure. Even if I have to get it custom made or something.
I will be checking this since it is available here in Turkey, thank you.
Good one! I’ll have a look.
Some all Naim french guys are liking a lot the Nordost powerblock. I wonder if Quantum and Nordost are not the same company.
Yeh,
And strut saving plan ,for a 2Kpound…
If my memory is right, Nordost bought Quantum a few years ago.
So you are not so fond of Chord’s products, or?
On the contrary
I have their network / power cables and switch ,
But, there is a limit to what can be invested in a simple power strip …
You should try . It really makes a difference, like going from a Nas to a mid level Melco. In my closed experience.
I went from the cheap powerblock to Eros Titan (700 euros) with a Kharma GR power cable ( 1,4 k) to the wall. A big step.
Don’t go around thinking that you know everything. Maybe not Naim UK HQ, but Naim N.A. found them good enough to recommend. Obviously they wouldn’t work in the UK or EU.
From Art Dudley in Stereophile:
“The Hydra met with success among the UK faithful—but reportedly, for whatever reason, it didn’t sound so hot over here. Consequently, Naim’s then US distributor, Naim North America, began searching for the next best thing: a high-quality, non–current-limiting power strip with low electrical froufrou factor. In about 1995 they found such a thing in Wiremold’s L10320: a nine-outlet, 15-amp power strip that came complete with nothing: no switch, no light, no circuit-breaker, no metal-oxide varistor, no fuse. Naim NA actually began distributing Wiremold L10320s to their dealers, and Naim enthusiasts on this side of the Atlantic embraced them. So, too, did many of us who appreciate the musical and sonic hallmarks for which Naim is known, but who use electronics from other manufacturers.”
Rooster,
Do you have a dedicated main power ,for the system?
Because this is what makes the difference and not the most exotic and expensive strip…
Not true at all. The opposite in fact.
I have a dedicated mains spur and a dedicated clean & low resistance earth. No MCB but a much better sounding Siemens Sitor fuse holder. The better your mains get, the more your hear differences in the remaining parts downstream in the chain. Power strips in particular.
Yes
