Over the years with the beginning of the realization that the quality of AC power delivery is fundamentally important to the sound quality of our systems. ( Anyone here read Enid Lumley in the Absolute Sound back in the 80’s or there abouts? ) I’ve used Tice power product, API Power Wedge, Monster power, Chang Lightspeed. They all pretty much sucked. The Breakthrough for me was Shunyata Research. Shunyata’s PLC’s and power cords have consistently set the standard. Shunyata products are the choice for many high end companies. Until one gets the chance to fit their products in your system you don’t know , what you don’t know
I had a Wiremold strip with an upgraded Oyaide plug. It didn’t ruin anything and provided for more outlets but it’s nothing special. The outlets are also too close together to accommodate standard audio grade plugs side by side. Moving to a Audioquest 1200 was a major improvement over the Wiremold. It makes things sound better. I’d really like an Audioquest 5000 but think the price is silly. I think the same about the tarted up AV Options power strips. If you want a very good strip that is better than the Wiremold and not quite as expensive as the Audioquest I’d recommend the Furutech TP66 they have gold and rhodium plated socket variants.
Indeed.
And therefore you do not have to invest thousands of pounds in a power strip …
Have a look see at the Olsen hospital grade power strips which are UK made and are very robustly made. I’ve had the top off mine and they are wired internally very well. They are quite substantial in weight too so no cheapo plastic parts nhere and they can be specified with or without on light or with an iec or cable gland. The hospital grade is a lovely colour too, a beige with white entry plug surround. They are superb value for money!
Ah, but the highly rated MusicWorks Ultra block is almost entirely plastic, even down to the screws and washers. To be fair, this is no cheapo plastic, but frighteningly expensive plastic (PEEK) instead.
Haven’t seen much info / explanation from the manufacturer, yet the overall design implies that using less metal overall might offer sonic benefits in this instance.
Seems like voodoo / witchcraft to some, but others have reported very positive results.
it really sounds amazingly good for all its minor design flaws, not too expensive too as vfm as it’s probably as good or better than the MusicWorks G3 (both made of some sort of fancy plastic type material)
Can’t say it’s better than Music Works, but I honestly doubt, as it costs 1/3 of its price.
The real difference will be then the power cable from the wall to it. Mine costs twice the Eros.
I know, cost is not all.
Anyway I like my Titan powerblock . And the Music Works is only UK plugs.
well, I can as I’ve had both - not really that much apart, would say the Eros has slightly more bass may be? but both quite good - only to my ears, of course. I can see a new version of the Eros with slightly more space between plugs and a metal case but believe same wiring inside?
Ah, very good to know . I am still more pleased now to own the Eros Titan.
Wonder how the Anzus entry level compares with these two.
I’m receiving a power strip from Puritan - the PS108 Purist - with a C20 inlet next week to evaluate. Very curious.
French…do you think if I will upgrade my matrix 2 to titan as yours Will I get an upgrade up .I’m still waiting to listen to the new chord power block probably in February next year come out
Perhaps wait still for the Chord. But in some months if you are tired to wait, you can buy the Titan. It’s very good. Doubt the Matrix is on the same level, because there is already a big difference in price. However I haven’t compared.
Right…I’m getting tired it’s almost an endless promise from the dealer here…on the other hand your Eros Titan is much more expensive so it’s probably much better
It would be wonderful if there’s always a correlation between price and quality/performance but…
You can even return it. Analogue seduction or other sites make 14 days free trial.
I received the AV Options SuperWiremold, Tibia 12 cables, and a Hubble outlet.
I can report that it made a respectable difference. I installed the Hubble last, and it was a noticeable improvement in addition to the new power strip.
I can’t compare the AV Options gear to the other options listed in this thread, but I’m currently happy with the upgrades.
Years ago when I was running a DBL six-pack, I had a breaker box installed with a total of 6 breakers, each feeding one duplex wall socket in parallel, although with common earths. I thought this was ideal…until a knowlegeble person brought along a Wiremold strip, and plugging that into one of those was demonstrably better than having multiple individual 20A mains feeds.
The Wiremold is remarkable for what it does NOT have in it to mess up the sound…additional IEC sockets, power switches, fuses, passive filtration, multiple earth points, loose contact sockets etc.
Ultimately I had the plug end of the wiremold lopped off and the wiremold cord was directly installed into the circuit breaker-by a licensed electrician, so no codes were violated.
Well, firstly, nice to see you around, RT!
And secondly, would strongly agree with solutions that get all the multiple sockets and everything else out of the way, whether in the wall or in the power block. That was the orignal value of the Hydra, which has however been surpassed by hardwired stuff like the Powerigel and Sean Jacobs PowerBlack distribution block, which can be made up in any configuration you like.
These seem to have a VG reputation esp the no filter and star ground versions. They also look to be very well built and made in UK no less. I like the grounding point which can be connected to external ground with the puritan grounding brick which has been tested by ocd guy on ytube as having zero volts on the line showing just how efficient the grounding system is! No other manufacturer was able to do this on the test he did?
Am I correct you have 4 main devices to plug in? I’m in Maryland, and asked my electrician. The breaker box stops surges he said. That’s what breakers are for. I had the electrician run a dedicated circuit for my Nova. And I plug my Powerline directly into the wall. Were I you I’d just install the same. Either one or two lines into 4 outlets (or however many you need.) My bill was under $200. Clean, no interference from anything else in the house. You do want the new wire to not cross any other electric wires in the run…
