Congratulations to Man City Women in winning the FA Cup and Double today.

A flattering 4-0 score line in an otherwise close contest against Brighton.

So Liverpool sack Slot. I can’t decide if that was a bit harsh or not. Liverpool definitely dropped off a lot this year but they would not have expected Isak to miss quite so much of the season (although he never had a great fitness record at Newcastle) then Ekitike got injured and missed most of the last half of the season. Van Dyke was poor or inconsistent and Wirtz took an age to settle into the league. Was that all Slot’s fault, I doubt it. So it seems a little harsh to me.

Nothing new there, then…

Hello Ian. Like a bad penny (for some) I an still here, by the skin of my teeth (or by the toe of Palhinha’s boot).

I will be enlightening you all with my words of wisdom as the season progresses…

Can’t write more, I am busy watching the Champions League final penalty shoot out, DVD player set on ‘repeat’. That will keep me entertained for the next three or four hours…

Possibly harsh, given the circumstances Slot had to face. But he proved not up to the tak. He lost the dressing room, lost the faith of his stars, and lost the Anfield fans. That last one may be the biggest factor: Liverpool fans hadn’t booed a boss since the hapless Roy Hodgson in 2011.

Slot’s position was untenable from that point.

“Former England international James Milner has announced his retirement after a 24-year Premier League career.”

Saw his lufc debut at ER. My brother-in-law used to sit in front of his dad in the East Stand. A fantastic career and a decent trophy cabinet to show for it. But his real legacy, I think, is his reputation as a thoroughly decent bloke who seemed to eschew the trappings of fame & money.

Saw him as a young player for Leeds when they visited Fratton Park in November 2003. Pompey were then doing well in the PL and romped to a 6-1 win with Leeds heading for relegation. As you say Milner was solid, non-showy player, and an excellent example to younger players who often seem to have an ego to match their talent. A proper professional.

Surely he’ll reinvent himself as a coach, and a good one at that. I hope so, anyway. Top bloke.

Marco Silva looks set to leave Fulham and head back to Portugal. A big challenge for Fulham to find another manager as good as him.

I think its a good move for the team. I really hope i don’t regret that. He’s done all he can with the setup at SW6. It’s not like he wasn’t offered a good contract. £8m … that would have been the 3rd highest in the Prem.Tony Khan and Ali Mac are the problem and I think Shad needs to clip their wings if he is to attract a tasty replacement. McKenna would be interesting. I’m looking forward to the coming season….. je pense!

So it looks very much as though Palace will have Pierre Sage from Lens as their new manager. He has only been at Lens for 12 months but he had them finishing 2nd in the Ligue 1 (after PSG) and winning their first Coupe de France. Similar style of play to the outgoing Oliver Glasner so a very exciting appointment.

It is thought that Sage will bring his 3 assistants with him - Parsley, Rosemary and Thyme

Nice one. Great appointment. Just hope we can recruit someone in the same ballpark.
