Just updated the Qobuz app and connect is now available.
Although predominantly a Roon user I have never found their “new music for you” particularly helpful for me and one aspect of the Qobuz app I really like is the ability to choose a record label.
It was through this that I found out there is a 30 year anniversary edition of “Teenager of the Year”. Just back from visiting my 30 year old daughter in Brussels and her 1 1/2 year old daughter. Both have been sung to sleep with Sir Rockaby from this album in their day.
SJB how did you become aware that Qobuz connect was available? I use a Lumin P1 streamer and it has already been updated to allow connect. Just waiting on the App now, here in Canada. We were one of the last countries to get Qobuz, so maybe we will be last to get the update. I keep checking the App Store, also opening my Qobuz App, and have yet to see an update.
I am reluctant to delete the App, because it says I will lose my data.
I read on this forum that it was available and there was an app update with it there. It’s Qobuz version 9 - you probably won’t have to wait to much longer to get it.
It will, but if Auralic (and others) already have it one can only presume that Naim’s next big update -that a lot of people are waiting on for other reasons- will have Qobuz Connect.
It’s kind of cute, that Connect is able to use any running instance of the app as target as well.
I can control the local device playback via Qobuz from and to any of my MacBook, iPad and iPhone. But only 1 playback at a time, since they are all in sync.
More from “playing around” perspective. I don’t think I’ll practically use this very often. (I did remote control iTunes on my Mac years ago… before I had my Unitis.)
Alright, I got the App updated finally and Qobuz connect is now working on my Lumin P1. It works with both my IPad and IPhone 15…Cool!!
You can see I am playing High res from the App, casted with connect to my P1, bottom left of screen.
The UI is nice, and it gives better filtering to the search options.
Personally, compared to many other streaming UI’s (Roon and the like excluded), I like the way that the Naim app integrates both my local library and streaming options. But it would be nice if Naim had access to all of the API options in Qobuz and Tidal. Sometimes it can be hard to find a track through the Naim app that is found easily in the streaming service apps.
You use the Qobuz app to browse, schedule, and manage your playback.
In addition, you can seamlessly switch control between multiple instances of the Qobuz app (on different devices), as well as seamlessly switch the playback device (keeping the queue and listening position) while doing so. (Including e.g. listening to headphones connected to your phone or whatever.)
In addition, a dedicated streamer will directly pull the media from Qobuz, so it’s not dependent on the control app/device, once started.
Including hires and e.g. the “continue the last played music with stuff selected by Qobuz” feature.
And it can work across devices of different vendors, when they all integrate it.
All that may or may not be beneficial for everybody. Some prefer the Naim app (e.g. because they use multiple sources and want to seamlessly switch between those, or want to acces features like Naim multi room - Connect currently only works with a single playback device at any time) or prefer Roon or whatever.
As mentioned above by someone: another tool in the toolbox to control music playback for Qobuz, which some will be very happy about and some will ignore.
This is the bit Tidal got all kinds of horribly wrong. If I forget that I have Tidal Connect playing - and leave the house - I basically can’t listen to music till I return home, figure out which device is playing, connect to it again and stop the music. So so stupid. Will definitely give Qobuz a go now.
