“Casting” may be an ambiguous term here.
It’s basically a remote control, where you manage your “play queue” with the client(s) (=app) and select a playback device to play it (once that’s triggered, the control part can go offline, so the player plays independently directly from Qobuz.)
It’s a bit like a UPnP controller and renderer. With the extra, that you have 1 shared play queue for your Qobuz account, can use multiple instances of the app (on different devices) to co-manage it and can redirect the playback to another player at any point in time. (So the queue is not hard-bound to the playback device.)
All - I assume - with a Qobuz specific protocol/API and likely supported by Qobuz “cloud service” (which likely enables the dynamic switching between controllers and players while keeping context, without having a local server like Roon or something.)
That’s my current best understanding.
But I haven’t implemented it, so there’s some conjecture in it.

No update for my Android app yet.
Someone said deleting the app and then reinstall did the trick. Maybe it works.
I will be patient. No use for it until the Naim firmware supports it anyway

Almost 1 year after Lumin made it available..
Naim need to update the way they release updates. Spotify Squad Framework might give some inspiration.

Looks like some tweaking still needs to be done on Wattson Audio’s end.
I had Qobuz version 8.6 on iPhone. In the Apple App Store I searched Qobuz and there is a blue “update” button. I pressed this and it updated my app. version to the new version of 9.0.0. Not sure if this would work the same on Android phones as well?

Usually updates appear in the Play Store automatically. But as Qobuz has chosen for a soft launch with gradually rolling it out this means that not everyone gets it at the same time.

I guess this has to do with the ‘soft launch’ with some of the manufacturers.
Official launch is scheduled for a later moment (supposedly HEM 2025), so I understand.
I think that has to be in beta. At least that’s the case with Auralic. I don’t think the public version’s been out more than a day or two.

I was referring to Tidal Max
Thank you for the description. So it seems at least that when using Connect the stream from Qobuz will not first go to the device running the app then back through the home network to reach the chosen receiving device. I was worried the stream would make two trips through my home network which could degrade quality relative to streaming straight to the chosen device.
I have not had a chance to do any critical listening yet, to see if connect sounds better.
But this quote from the software designer makes me think that might be possible:
We also have proprietary enhancements for additional buffering, as well as Qobuz Connect discovery, so it should hopefully be easier to discover Lumin in Qobuz app than competing devices.
The additional buffering comment specifically.
Edit I just listened to Comfortably Numb from
“The Lockdown Sessions”…oh my, an out of body experience. Something really good is going on here.

From another source I understand that several of the manufacturers are not going live with their firmware until Qobuz does the official launch of Connect at High End Munich 2025.
Maybe Naim is following or obligated to follow that path as well?

Yes, potentially premature from Qobuz here.
Equally we know from posts ages ago that Naim have built-in support for hi-res stereo Airplay should Apple ever deign to allow it outside their ecosystem.
Connect working on WiiM Pro. And sounding rather good.

How can you tell?
Was there a firmware or app update?
I saw nothing on the WiiM website earlier today.
EDIT - deleted and re-installed the app and there it was (for my Wiim Streamer)
That is interesting.
So would Connect make connections like Roon, Melco, Innuos, etc., irrelevant in terms of UI (100%) and SQ (?)
Doh my prior question answered, thank you.
