Qobuz is definetly more my liking curation than Tidal… whatever I listen Tidal is pushing me hiphop
The more you use Tidal, the more it learns what you listen to, and its suggestions then no longer need to come from Jay-Z. Sure, there’s probably still a bit of stuff in the background that you don’t like, but you won’t actually hear any of it unless you select it yourself.
I’m not sure I’m going to continue with Roon for another year to be honest, the lifetime price hike being waived for those on a trial but not for existing members when it was announced irritated me a little, as well as them pulling the list of Qobuz purchases from my Qobuz section. I understand they want a regular income stream not loads of ‘lifers’, but had they given existing members a window of opportunity to go for the lifetime upgrade I’d have been happier. Loads on the Roon forum maintained people should have seen it coming but unless you were a regular there you wouldn’t have known they plan to get rid of it eventually.
In fact I think this still gives the
impression lifetime will be available indefinitely:The chat on the Roon forum is that it will disappear relatively soon and likely with no warning.
I like it because it allows Qobuz/ Tidal and Radio Paradise flac (all 4 streams) to run very happily on ‘old style’ 272 streamer with lms2upnp hack while waiting for new 272 ![]()
Don’t understand your reference to pulling Qobuz tracks?

Its a strange business concept to me, offering a lifetime subscription. For many it would be their hoped for lifetime, but with companies folding…it could be a few years or months. You would need as a company to keep adding memberships, year on year to survive. I may be missing something, but i have stayed well clear of Roon.
I just consider it the difference between an annual subscription and a perpetual software licence.
You are correct ‘lifetime’ is not your lifetime but that of the product/company and nothing to stop them rebranding the product with a few facelifts as something else and locking out lifetime subscribers from the new improved whatever.
I actually think they’ll flounder or be boughg out unless a small number of enthusiasts make them viable for decades.
I’ve purchased quite a few things from Qobuz - albums generally come as zip files, so you have to download, archive, decompress and organise/transfer to NAS etc.
Admittedly I’ve not downloaded some sale purchases or haven’t finished downloading a few huge compilations that won’t download as enormous ZIPs.
I was delighted when Roon addd Qobuz support, as in the Qobuz section I could view all my Qobuz purchases under a tab and stream them even if I’d not downloaded them.
Stupidly Qobuz decided such purchases would be automatically added to the local library database, but then there was duplication of Qobuz files downloaded to the local storage and those available to stream.
So instead of simply not automatically adding prior purchases to the ‘library’ database they got rid of the ability to stream your prior purchases from your Qobuz section in the app, and for the life of me I can’t see why they can’t continjue to implement that part of the Qobuz API.
Admittedly loads of users can’t see why I want that facility but I and several others do, but that request to reinstate a feature has fallen on deaf ears.
It makes sense to me that a new business would seek to raise cash to fund their development rather than grovelling to a bank who probably don’t understand their business model, and if they’ll lend them money at all, will want to charge them a high interest rate.
Roon have probably passed that stage now, and want the regular subscription income to make them sustainable.
OK
I usually grab any purchases as soon as possible in case they disappear ![]()

Yes I generlaly do to, but there’s a few that are so big I can’t face doing it all at once!
I emailed Qobuz today asking about availing of the reduced price after my trial was over, their reply is below…
Dear Customer,
As you may know, Qobuz has just introduced the Studio Premier subscription in the USA and UK for $ 14.99.
Unfortunately, this subscription is not yet available on the service in other countries. However, this is a temporary situation due to negotiations that are still progress with the rights holders in other countries.
Qobuz is working tirelessly to synchronize our offers across the world. The Studio Premier plan will be available to our users in other countries soon, we hope Ireland will be in the first !
Thank you for your interest in Qobuz
I just used a VPN to avail of the $14.99 offer from the USA and it works fine without VPN once signed up.
I dislike the $14.99 / €14.99 / $14.99 pricing and am glad to be able to circumvent it.

Are you not in Ireland SJB, and if so wouldn’t the Euro pricing remove you from the vagaries of exchange rates?
The offer currently is USA and UK only.

Local currency conversions aside these regional variations/limitations of availability seem pretty crazy in the modern world.
Not so much.
To provide good uninterrupted service they need to deploy local edge distribution nodes etc. They need agreements with rights holders in all markets that they will deploy to and provide the service in.
Or did you think they just deploy a server in their basements?
In Italy Qobuz takes your head off for only € 35, ![]()
Assuming you are replying to me, frankly I don’t really care a jot about their infracstructure for all of this stuf, I just feel that local taxes aside that economies with similar demographics ought to have reasonably similar prices.
I’ll admit it I’m no economist, but I think increasingly as customers, we question regional differences more and more be it for music, movie/TV Show releases etc - there may well be contracts between parties that just can’t be rewritten but it would be so much simpler all round if things were a little more harmonised across the board.
Then of course you’d question whether or not poor economies should get cheaper subscriptions as already happens I believe for some online services, instincitvely I’d like to say yes, but I’m not so sure.
Is it possible to stream using Qobuz to a first generation Mu-so QB?
The living room system uses Roon to stream and we have a Tidal subscription but we use the Naim app for the QB.
If we can get Qobuz to both the living room system and QB, then we’ll give it a trial.
Thanks in anticipation, BF
Hi, roon will quite happily feed tidal and qobuz to the original mu-so/qb via AirPlay.
