Qobuz Studio reduction in price

Ah, yes, I do. Clicked to get that started just now, but Got this message from the Naim Website:
Welcome to naimaudio.com

Something a little special is on its way… That means our website will be down from 7pm (BST) as we spend the evening here in Salisbury, UK updating it with lots of new information.

See you tomorrow!

I’m taking advantage of the free month offer to trial quobuz. I currently use Tidal. I am constantly experiencing drop out of the quobuz streams. Is this happening elsewhere?

Bit late after 13 years.

At what point during playback do the dropouts occur? Is it random, or at the end of a track, for example?
Does this happen on HiRes tracks, in which case, do things improve if you set Qobuz audio quality to 16/44?

Here, Qobuz (using Roon) is flawless – enjoying HiRes a lot. My streamer (Allo USBridge Sig) is wired up.

Simon, you clearly have some level of legal knowledge but the facts you have been presented with would not lead any lawyer to make such bold statements as you have. You obviously know your stuff on the engineering front but my advice would be to leave legal matters to experts too.

Hi Graham, no real legal knowledge, other than PDP/GPDR which I had to get advice as a Parish Councillor and professionally from responsibilities of a processor to the rights of the consumer/citizen , where this is relevant. The controls and responsibilities are clear… but that is seoerate from any legal mechanisms you may wish to apply to manage.
It’s sad that more people don’t realise their rights with regard to personal information… you can be quite assertive as an individual… you perhaps only need a lawyer if you need to challenge a non compliance.

Hi Simon, you are a highly articulate person who writes very well but I see many forums littered with inaccurate legal advice. You may or may not be correct in some of your comments but the accuracy of them could not be known from the facts. PDP is not as powerful as you might think. There is a danger here in giving such strong advice with such certainty. It is a matter for you but I would recommend caution in areas in which you are not an expert.

Graham, separately I have advised challenges in this area and hav had success :+1:, I simply suggest awareness of the rights of the citizen consumer… and yes I do get a kick when some try and shut the little person down…
You would appear to be a lawyer perhaps… you never know we may meet at some time :grinning:

GPDR for those that want to know the obligations Standard Data Protection Policy

I certainly agree that an understanding of rights is very important and the man in the street could and should use them when it is right and appropriate to do so. My view was that, without more facts, your advice went too far and I have seen numerous occasions of individuals giving themselves greater problems in asserting a semi-understanding of their legal position.

Simon, I am with you there and I certainly get a kick too out of helping the little guy against the big guy. It does feel good.

There are always facts and circumstances as you say, but you have the right to make an instruction, and for that to be ignored and then harassed as if you had not made the instruction can be challenged.
You have the right for most forms of personal information that is held on you by a third party to be disclosed. (There are certain key exceptions to with security etc) If you no longer require the services of a provider you can request your details be removed in connection with those services. The provider also has an obligation to destroy any details when not required as well .

Simon, you are right I am a lawyer. For my sins GDPR is one of my areas too although I predominantly do litigation. It is always pleasant to debate an issue especially in lockdown. Who knows, our paths may cross and I would look forward to that. In the meantime, stay safe and sane in the current times.

It’s happening, generally, not long after a track begins. Sometimes, after a short period, the next track commences; or there can be a long break before a spontaneous return to music. It doesn’t happen with Tidal.
I think it is only occurring with Quobuz high res files: I will try limiting things as you suggest although this would undermine a key reason to move Quobuz.
I have set my Roon device settings for my streamers to 192/24 (following Simon-in-Suffolk’s advice, posted on another thread): this did appear to improve the SQ and was a great tip).

But this is the TV Licensing authority and there was nothing in the post to say under whether a licence was or was not required as a matter of law. If the legal circumstances were such that a licence was required but not obtained, the enforcement letter could not amount to harassment. I agree that, had it been demonstrated that the legal basis for not needing a licence was established, I would take a strong line concerning harassment.

Hence my concern that the advice was too strong based on the facts as presented.

Great stuff…where’s here

Clearly, I assumed the poster was not acting unlawfully, clearly if they were it is different.. I was only stating one’s rights, I was not suggesting I was acting as some kind of online defence lawyer..

I am based in the UK — and never had any issue with Qobuz’s reliability. I would assume that one’s geographical location shouldn’t really affect how Qobuz performs, but others here know more about tech. I am a social scientist… :relaxed:

No suggestion of unlawful on my part either but he might have been mistaken.

I’m wondering if the quality of our internet service (rural UK) has been reduced due to rationing during these unprecedented times
