Still trying for more info. It had intrigued several members of the railway modelling forum where I asked for help. Current thinking is it it’s possibly hand built.
Don’t suppose you’re likely to see it again?

It does look hand-built. I could go back next week. Is it the asking price that you would like to know?
The price might help it’s origin but I’m not interested in buying it. Thanks all the same. ![]()

I should probably start a new topic, but I have planned an autumn vacation in Scotland. Are there any interesting stations or railways outside the towns that I could visit and photograph?
Don’t know if this is of any use, its a screenshot from
Railtracks (Scotland) which you could check out.
if you’re into Standard gauge, can recommend the following.
Bo’Ness & Kinneil Railway,
Caledonian Railway
Glenfinnan Station Museum,
Strathspey Railway,
But depending when you intend to visit, please check their respective websites for opening times and operating days.
hope this helps.

Is there still a steam train that goes out along the West Highland Line over Glenfinnan viaduct? If that appeals.
According to the web, West Coast Railways are still operating the train.
Timetables
The Jacobite dates and times.
Morning Service:
Running from Monday 7th April to Friday 24th October 2025 (seven days per week)
Afternoon Service:
Running from Monday 5th May to Friday 26th September 2025 (seven days per week)
NOTICE: Due to scheduled line maintenance we are unable to run the Jacobite service from the 1st to the 5th September 2025 (dates inclusive). Therefore we will not be able to accept bookings for these dates.
Thank you,
I think we can include the Glenfinnan viaduct plus railway museum in our route and I discovered that the Bo’Ness & Kinneil Railway is on our way from Edinburgh to the Kelpies.
I will take a look at the others in the upcoming days.
Thanks again. This is very useful.
Any time, thats what this forum is all about, helping each other, enjoy your trip, looking forward to the Photo’s ![]()

That’s pretty damn impressive, are they one offs.
Morning Pete, yes Neil will finish the model to your specifications, the model is a Lee Marsh Great Western Castle class supplied in pristine condition, then Neil does his magic.
I’m not sure which direction I’d take. When I used to take my son to Didcot shed, the newly outshopped locomotives looked superb and gleaming and I recall are kept that way for as long as possible but looking at old pictures of BR steam days, the soot, weather and hard work rapidly led to the condition shown on this model.
The representation of grease on the main valve gear is particularly impressive.
Personally I would have the model as shown depicting everyday use, it’s more lifelike, and when adding to your layout, it wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb, but you pays your money and takes your choice.
More of Neils skills on display at his website.
Preservation sites like Didcot have done a fantastic job saving and restoring, which for the most part were complete wrecks, and we owe them a massive debt.
