Recommend your favourite Record & CD Stores

Wrong thread. Sorry.

Rose Street Records in Edinburgh (just behind Princes Street) was a favourite schoolboy haunt of mine. The owner used to import LPs from the USA, so I was able to buy Doors LPs before their official UK release.

The shop was no longer there when I last visited Edinburgh.

There’s also Electron & Astonishing Sounds down the road (and on the same street) in Burnley. Electron still has an original 50s/60s listening booth. Quite a place.

You have The Doors’ first or early US pressings then? Nice! Especially if they’re the Monarch pressings - a circled MR in the deadwax.

Yes, but I was a schoolboy in a boarding school in Edinburgh, and they got played on some pretty ropey Dansette-type players. So those LPs are long gone, sadly.

But I have recently bought brand new LPs from Amazon USA, which are very nicely made, silent surfaces, etc.

Ah…pity.

Ah…wish I’d have bought one when I could.

Just thought I’d mention I made it to Music Box today. What a lovely bloke Kevin is. Even offered me a cup of tea. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll have to try for Colne next. Was using Olive Naim & a Linn CD player. Always a good sign.

Don’t know what this place is like, but a friend spotted it in Amsterdam a week or two back. Note the spelling of LPs!

I’ve always liked this place in Brussels – two floors of new and secondhand vinyl and CDs.

I’ve recently started visiting The Second 45 shop in Llanelli when I am in the town.
CDs, Vinyl (I may have seen some cassettes) - both new and second hand.
Lots of boxes to rummage in and explore.

The town mouse visits the city. Popped into Fopp and absolutely nothing there of interest.

Then down the road to Foyles and thought I’d see what was in Ray’s Jazz shop in the corner - gone! not there anymore Foyles have turned it into an arts section.

It is still there but it’s tucked away at the other end of that floor. Go through the Classical and look to your right.

Ah brilliant - good news. Next time I venture up I’ll turn right rather than left. Thanks

I did Colne today. Kevin’s son runs that one. Definitely worth a visit. 2.5 hours free disc parking. Don’t forget your disc!

Has it completely disappeared from Foyles? If so, that is a very great shame - when it opened in there it was a sizeable shop in its own right, with a performance space (I remember seeing Empirical there). Over the years the shop shrank and the performance space went. I always wondered how long it would last.

Sad days in London without a specialist jazz outlet other than Honest Jon’s.

Update - Just seen zos93’s comment so presumably the relocated ‘shrunken’ store is still there.

@Zos93 says it has moved to the other end of the floor after the classical section.

Is ‘Soul Brother’ in East Putney not classed as a Jazz specialist?
Just had a few days down the smoke for our 40th anniversary and came upon this independent. Had a good chat with the owner who seemed a very decent chap, small but plenty to peruse.
