Roksan to Linn via VPI & MoFi decks

Not necessarily… When was ‘your’ LP12 actually made…??

No worries! I was about to pop over to wemsfest to discuss it further but the apology will suffice :joy:

Actually my first British TT was the Rega Planar 3/RB300 (or was it 250) and Elys cart (no actually a Garrard but another story) . This was the best Rega TT at the time and I soon progressed to a Valhalla LP12/Akito/K9. Years later when Rega started making higher end TT’s I was nearly tempted to switch and if starting out afresh today would certainly be on my audition list. My LP12 now is close to Klimax spec, I do keep telling myself that it’s time to draw a line but Linn’s upgrades are usually so significant that resistance is futile and I’ve not regretted any of them.

Btw, the Akito cost £150 at the time, when Linn discontinued the Ittok they hiked the price of the Akito to £1500, I got £500 trade with my dealer for the Akito against an Ekos, 350 more than I paid for it, cushty!

Kiddie?

I wondered about that.

That was a crazy increase! I do recall thinking at the time because it made the Akito £400 more than I paid for my Ekos 1. Makes the Ekos price increases seem modest in comparison

Perhaps the fact that people would still buy it at that price (or whatever it sells for now) is testament to how good the arm was/is?

I meant being a new (as in yesterday) owner of a decades old deck.

The deck itself is old, other parts (power supply/motor/arm etc) less so.

Thanks for the emailing Linn info’.

A dealer, I can’t recall who now, once told me he thought the later Akito would give an Ittok a run for its money. I never heard an LP12 with an Akito but always preferred the look of the Ittok and Ekos. They looked more expensive and therefore better. I know that’s quite facile. 🤷🏼

Cannot resist wading in. Personally, I think that if you opt for a used LP12 then you should get it from a specialist dealer who has PLENTY of experience with LP12s and who will be well able to detect problems such as worn bearings and sub-optimal chases and sub-chases. Not many sentences have two subs in them!

Maybe why Linn discontinued the Ittok which was a relatively older product by the time the Akito was launched. Agree it doesnt look particularly fancy against Ittok or Ekos but the quality is where it needs to be I guess. I went from Akito to Ekos so never heard an Ittok on mine

Or Chassis?

…indeed…missed that one…I am not quite sure what the plural is…and could not be bothered to look it up…so guessed.

Plural of chassis is chassis?

Like the plural of vinyl is vinyl, not vinyls as seems to be common now, dont get me started on that one! :joy:

Totally agree…I blame the BBC for deteriorating standards in the use of Englis.
