It appears to be hardware independent, but it is not, the Linn streamers is the case in point here.
Maybe âindependentâ is the wrong term, rather you have a choice of endpoints rather than being tied to a single manufacturer.
Apart from the potential typos or grammatical errors I donât understand this statement. Please explain.
Maybe you do not own a Linn streamer, or do not know how it works? Roon does not communicate to the Linn stremers using RAAT, but rather using the Linn proprietary technology called Songcast.
Roon made exceptions for Linn and KEF LS50w and Devialet as they needed not to lose these companies as they were growing. KEF and Devialet are now roon ready so I would expect Linn to be dropped if they donât go the full Roon ready route. There are already threads about incompatibilities of Roon and Linn with some sample rates on the Roon forum.
Iâd also would be surprised if LMS integration was kept up to date.
An interesting one will be HQ Player integration which quite a few seem to use judging by the Roon forum. However Harmon would have the readies to buy out Jussi and this would position Roon very strongly if they had HQP filters integrated.
Interesting times.

I do own a Limm streamer as you can see in my profile. It has been working perfectly with Roon lately and I hope it will continue to do so. 6 years into the âlifetimeâ licence and hoping for longevity.
I see, Iâve never looked at the membersâ profiles.
If you owned one of the Linn streamers of the later generations, then you would be aware of the issues, but Roon do not want to fix them despite several requests and complaints.
I even emailed to Linn helpline about it and below is the Colinâs response:
"I have checked with our head engineer and he has confirmed that the certification of the Klimax DSM/3 is with Roon to do their part.
PS: I think there must be something odd about it! I sent messages directly to Brian (Roon CTO), and Danny (Roon CIO), dead silence, I posted a query about the Linn support on the Roon forum, nothing offensive, just a normal query, and it got deleted by the Room staff after a short while, so I gave up.
I hope this will be fixed by Samsung/Harman!!! So for me, the Roon acquisition by Samsung is good news, Samsung is not that amateurish.
I had issues with my old generation Klimax DSM/3. No more issues with the new-gen Klimax DSM/3.
If you do not stream anything higher than 192 kHz/24 bit or DSD 128 then you would not see the problem.
I should have mentioned it earlier.
Phew - dodged that particular bullet then. Thanks for clarifying
Not relating to the above issue, but rather âSamsungâ; no they are NOT amaturish!
but they are bastards at shoehorning tech to sell their products.
eg when they keep pulling out bluetooth codecs from Android so as to attempt to sell us their Samsung Codec as âbetterâ (because we no longer have access to aptx HD that may have actually shipped with our samsung phone in the first instance).
Samsung know what they are doing, and âyesâ there are ways to make this purchase âworkâ for them.
âŚbut not really for the benefit of anyone else.
I can see this being a feather in their cap, and likely needed in some silly battle of the âmusic playersâ, certainly in their ever ongoing battle against Apple (etc).
so I suppose I fall in the camp of 'âproduct gradually whittles downâ but âkey aspects will be moved into âother product salesâ.â (ie earbuds)
You are mentioning a very important topic at the Roon forum! Silencing users at Roonâs pleasure is an absolute no-go. This has just come up on other sites like Reddit, audiophilstyle etc because as you mention all other communication not âsuitableâ is deleted on the Roon forum.
And this happens so that all users donât realize it most of the time because this is done secretly. There is no âdeleted postsâ area to provide some transparency along with an explanation etc.
This is really worrisome.
Absolutely / transparency is one is the most important criteria of a brand - especially when community driven.
Really sad and worrisome to see that Roon has gone that route. I am sure Harman Audio doesnât know about these âtacticsâ at all and believes things are fine concerning the consumer side. When in reality more and more users are complaining about lacking support, many bugs which are there for years and lately even more problems.
Letâs hope Harman is turning this into a better company again.
Had no idea roon was censoring posts. I generally try to stay positive over there but Iâve been hit by slow performance and slow search. So was actually hoping Naim would finish up with Tidal Connect update and I could bypass roon until things get sorted out. As of now, neither of them are going to release Tidal Max by end of the year. Well roon we know for sure since said last release is it until next year.
I am sure Harman Audio knows more than all of us here combinedâŚ
Well to some extent. Though they also rely on what Roon is telling them and by browsing the online forum (which we know is censored). They also rushed the whole ARC software release just to make Roon more appealing to a potential buyer.
The stability of Roonâs backend and frontend is currently really weak and hopefully they get this back on track.
Would members please respect and abide by forum rules here - specifically commenting on discussion on other forums. Thanks.
What are you exactly referring too? Roonâs decisions in view of the Harman Audio takeover or current problems of the Roon software/forum and its future development regarding Harman Audio?
