I run a Nucleus+, and its probably overkill, but its a little future proof. Constant upgrades can get expensive. I like to buy once and consider it a final purchase. This requires me to be patient at times, but in the long run for me, its better and less expensive. I work all day on a computer dealing with remote telescope issues, windows updates, and bugs. My music system is a source of enjoyment, so I especially want plug and play with a minimum of “opportunities for excellence/upgrades/issues/etc”. I am upgrading a pair of Apogee Scintilla One Ohm Ribbons, and that is all the DIY I can handle at the moment.
This is interesting … I’ve tried to transfer a stream, say from my study to the kitchen, but I’ve failed. My only solution is to multiroom the stream. Could you give more details please?
Click the ‘volume’ icon, then the two-way arrow icon (between DSP and ‘cogs’)…
I can’t even get the fan to kick-in on my NUC5i3.
In the BIOS I did set it for Quiet operation
This is defined as
Quiet: A preset configuration that is set to keep the overall system quieter, but slightly warmer.
But I left the other parameters as default
So there is CPU temp where the fan speed is set to increase, and a duty cycle increase.
But can’t make ROCK do enough to hit that point.
NUC is located upstairs in home office with the NAS, UPS, Modem, Router, Switches in a AV cabinet, with the back open and the front doors also open.
Simples … thanks

For me this has been a very informative thread. Have learned a lot. Much appreciated. Special thanks to Gregg and Simon as I’m not technically inclined (understatement) and your exchanges have cleared up a great deal.
It was a learning experience for me as well
Simon
I had a look at their website. I am not in the UK but actually in NY State - where they extrude the cable!
Is there a US affiliate which markets and sells these cables?

I have dropped Tony @ True Audio Signal cables an Email, with your request.
Will be back to you, when he responds.
Thank you.
So Tony from True Signals Audio says “more than welcome to contact me directly or he can contact my man in Toronto ( Steve at Hififofum Toronto)“
Tony is at sales@truesignal.co.uk, just mention me and we should be sorted.
Michael, just by curiosity, did the CHC linear ps improved significantly your Roon Nucleus ?
I read a recent review on Stereophile comparing Roon Nucleus with Hdplex 300 W vs the Innuos Statement. For the reviewer the big linear ps improved very clearly the Nucleus, which then sounded near the level of the Innuos.

Interesting reading and it resulted in me spending 1/2 hour googling LPS’s for the Nucleus ![]()
Some of them are quite pricey! Since I am in the States I wonder how Small Green Computers $285 offering does for a Nucleus?
This is quite interesting, as I ended up with an HDPLEX 200W linear power supply powering the Audiostore Prestige 3 (XL spec). This pairing is very close in spec to the Stereophile review pairing. The Prestige 3 server XL spec is in effect the UK market version of the Small Green Computer Sonictransporter i7 (now discontinued, I believe)
Yes, it did. Nice big immediate lift and steady long improvement during burn-in.
FWIW CHC Sean designed the Innuos Statement power supply.
I have no experience of SGC, who seem a nice bunch, but in my sad experience you get what you pay for in a power supply: there’s no substitute for a big transformer and quality capacitors with lots of current reserves, plus good rectification. It’s what Julian Vereker discovered, so the Naim story all over again.
The 2 reviews on different servers in last Stereophile are mentioning the Nucleus plus with Hdplex 300 W.
Since my experience with the linear ps for my past Unitserve, I observed real big uplift with the Uptone Js2 ( 1k), and minor one with the Israeli one ( 300 pounds).
However the Hdplex punches well above its price. I would recommend it.
Or of course the best ones, as Sean Jacobs, Uptone Js2, Paul Hynes, top MCRU…
I use a PrimeMini 4 with i7 and a 250 GB SSD for the database. Roon Rock is installed. The power supply is a Progressive Audio.
I have since done a bit of reading on this topic. The general consensus which I have been able to deduce is that when using USB as the mode of connection between the Nucleus and a DAC a LPS makes sense. If the mode of connection to the DAC is via Ethernet (which is also the preferred method) than a LPS is not necessary and the included Wallwart is fine. A LPS will only improve things if the Wallwart was near the stereo and connected to the same mains ring. Makes sense to me logically.
Best

That approach does seem logical enough, and it seems to be what Roon think, along with their advice to keep the Core a decent distance from the HiFi equipment.
On a similar note, I once asked an Innuos rep. what I could expect from their higher lever products over what the Zen Mini could offer, and he just said that it wasn’t something I should consider, as I was looking at them as UPnP servers into a Naim streamer.
