Securing lightweight tablette 10

Hey guys, I just got tab 10 signatures to replace my d20r.

However these speakers are very light, and it is concerning that it may fall off with some wind or knocks.

I would like to ask you guys for recommendations on how to safely attach the speaker to the stand, do you use blu tack? But blu tack can leave residue.

Also, what stands would be recommended for these speakers that work with isoacoustics gaia 3? The weight limit of the gaia 3 restricts the stands that have high mass loading capacity.

I use a product called Plasti-Tak. It was problematic with the black ash finish in terms of leaving residue behind, but not oak or cherry for some reason. Which finish do you have?

Cherry finish, thank you

My stands are Custom Design FS104, approximately 2/3 filled with Atabites. To secure the speaker to the top plate I use Black Tac. A tiny dab at each corner, with a single Atabite embedded to stop it flattening out, does the trick.

When you need to remove the speaker, as long as you’re careful, you won’t have a problem with the veneer getting marked or damaged. The safest way is to use dental floss, cutting through the putty from the corner inwards with a sawing motion.

I used blu tak with my Tab 10’s and it didn’t leave any marks. Make sure that when you want to remove speakers from stands that you apply rotational twist rather than lift directly - this will preserve the veneer. I used specific LS3/5a stands from Falcon. Any stand with an LS3/5a sized top plate that you can mass load will be fine

Herbie’s Fat Dots offer a good grip and won’t leave any residue. Their decoupling effects work quite well with standmounts ime.

Blu tak is the answer, you don’t need much… and remember if you then remove the speakers a twisting motion is required so you don’t pull the lacquer of the bottom of the speaker!

I use Blu tak under my T10s

I used some custom made open frame stands with T10s and they worked really well. They were fixed with tiny blobs of blu tack, and came off after two years with no marks whatsoever. I rather like the look of the Atacama NeXXus 600. You can get them with a bigger front tube, and a horizontal top place designed specifically for the T10. I really wouldn’t worry about the IsoAcoustics, which are hardly essential. With the Atacama you can get a lot of Atabites in the larger tube, which is useful for the T10.

Interesting, according to a search i find they weigh 5.5kg each, apart from Hurricane Katrina is there really an issue here?

Thank you. In my country the importer only has the atacama nexxus 600, and not the other stands like HMS. I dont think we have the larger front tubes as well. Would there be a significant difference between the nexxus 600 and something like the HMS assuming they are both filled with atabites?

I have « Target MR Serie » copy under my T10s

There is also the « Foundation Designer mkII » stand

you will need very heavy stands

Thank you all. I mightjust go with the nexxus 600 and atabites as my dealer does not have the HMS. Would i just expect the bass quantity to be lesser? Also would i need the custom top plate or is this just for aesthetics?

One more thing, how much burn in do these speakers need? I realise the sound changed in the first few hours of playing it.

The HMS with the correct top plate was discontinued ages ago. The next best thing is the Nexxus. It comes in three versions, normal tubes, thick front tube, thick both tubes. You absolutely need the correct top plate, as it’s wider but less deep, sized to fit the speaker. It is not possible to fit this top plate if you have two thick tubes, but it fits either of the others.

The one you want is what Atacama call Hifi Audio, with the 180mm wide and 160mm deep top plate. You can screw the supplied top place to the underside of the base plate for extra mass.

I’d suggest filling the stands about two thirds. If you add too much mass you can deaden the sound.

The speakers need a few weeks run in, during which time they open up hugely.

My Proac 1SCs need very heavy stands and blu-tac. Sitting on pads or spikes didn’t work at all.

Hello again @HungryHalibut ,

I have done some research and i found what you were talking about the 3 types of nexxus stands.

Now I have a choice of either getting the Nexxus hifi with the proper top plate, or getting the heavier nexxus PRO, but the top place will be incorrectly sized for the tablette 10. The extreme would be to get the HMS2X with an even bigger top plate.

Now considering everyone says the proacs need very heavy stands, I would like to know which is a better choice?

You want the Hifi with the proper sideways top plate. The Pro simply won’t work. The T10 isn’t the same as the earlier Tabs, as it has thinner walls that do flex a bit. So the Hifi stand with the little pads in each corner will be fine. You’ll have one fat column which will take loads of Atabites, so it will be fine.

Thank you, i shall heed your advice. Would you also recommend I remove the pre installed rubber on the stands, and use blu tack instead?

I’d ask for the rubber not to be attached. Then try blu tack, then try the pads without sticking them on. See which you prefer. You can also ask for the Atacama labels not to be attached, if you prefer the cleaner look. If you buy from Atacama direct they are really helpful.

Hello again guys,

I would like to ask - when putting the atabites into the stand, do you just pour it in as is, or would you use some sort of plastic bag first? if you do, what type of bag - like the umbrella bag or just ziplock bags?

Also, if using stands, would it be recommended to use my existing isoacoustics gaia 3, or would spikes be better?
