That’s correct but from my understanding they should still be effective in your scenario.

I tried cross-head screws but could never get them to line up with the spikes.
In the end I went with size 14 cap head self tapping screws like these (from Accu):
They screw in with an Allen key. Easy to line up with spikes.
Various lengths available, mine were 40mm, making sure not to go right through the floorboards.

Looks like a good idea.
Plenty of wiggle room
I lined mine with making a card template then used that screw into the floor and managed to line up everything in the head of the pozi drive screws.
