Great post ,
Is it a Fiio?
Linn Specialist on YouTube seems to like them and has videos of the machine playing if it helps.
Itās the PL200 from SMSL.
Hereās my Luxman D-10X CD/SACD/MQA player. A truly wonderful disc player imo. It has thoroughly impressed me over the last year with many hundreds of discs spun.
Itās very nice to see all these disc players in use.
It would definitely be the player Iād get if it was within my budget. Iām very jealous.
Here is my cd555 which is an incredible piece of engineering and I hope will keep spinning for many years to come.
In case it should fail, I also acquired a Luxman sacd player (same as MrDom) which to my bemusement is even bigger and heavier than the cd555. Indeed I struggled to fit it on the Fraim glass shelf!! Here it is along with my owned from new Nait located in my bedroom.

It is a beast of a machine!
How do you compare the two?
I donāt mean which is better, I assume they are different.
Nice setups by the way
I was rather shocked when collecting the Luxman to find that the package weighed circa 35kg! I donāt recall seeing an item triple boxed before - felt a bit like Russian dolls taking it out of the packaging!
I havenāt played both units in the same system so canāt comment specifically on sound but I have been mighty impressed with the Luxman through the Nait 2 (which Darran serviced last year for the first time since new!). It is a bit spoilt with Sarum rca-din and speaker cables. The slight trump card held by the Luxman is the sacd specific playback facility.
Aesthetically I much prefer the CD555 - not just because it is black but the core minimalist design looks mightily impressive to me. The CD555 lid is a fab piece of engineering but equally its one aspect which I say a little prayer every time I use it in the hope that nothing goes wrong! The Luxman sliding drawer mechanism is much less exciting but gives the impression it will outlive me! Indeed my justification for getting the Luxman was not so much for the bedroom system (you may have spotted my old cd player remains on the bottom shelf) but as first reserve, should the CD555 be afflicted by any serious problem. Particularly as there appear to be increasing problems at Naim HQ with parts availability - not Naimās fault, just a function of time and parts being no longer manufactured.

Totally get the comments regarding 555. Itās something I would have loved to own.
Great options you have there
Really surprised that Arcam hasnāt done a āLimitedā run of some of their FMJ kit at 10x the original price ā¦ā¦ā¦ Undoubtedly their Asia manufacturing facilities could deliver same.

Sold my Arcam CD73 T a few years ago to a lucky new owner.
Itās was still ālike newā and he couldnāt believe his luck.
Worked flawlessly and very silent. They made great CD players back then.
Oh, that Technics is lovely. So many buttons! A touching link back to your Dad.
My 1991 Technics SLPS50 is still in the garage and still worked perfectly the last time I used it. Even sounded pretty good running into my Naim kit.
(internet imageā¦ mine is probably grubbier)
By coincidence my old cd player in the above photo (bottom shelf) is an Arcam Alpha 8. I dread to think what age it is; and pleased to report, it is standing by in reserve in good health!

Pretty much feels like a pic of my first girlfriend
'88 I think.
Mission cyrus amp
Celestion DL2s
Still running the rega 3 today.
Fantastic.
I wish I had a collection of these players in mint condition.
Wow !!! the Alpha 8 was my first CDP. During the second year of ownership it actually just would not output anything to my then Alpha 8 SE amp. so it was sent back to Arcam. They decided that the problem was the DAC and at that time they had no stock of DACās. Would i be happy if they put a Alpha 9 DAC in instead of an Alpha 8 DAC ?..what do you think my answer was
I had that CDP until i bought my first Naim in 2013. In fact, the only reason i moved to Naim was because the transport in the Alpha 8 was becoming problematic with certain copied cd playbacks. I sold it, and the guy i sold it to is still using it as his main CDP now.
