Some really nice cans! What are the bands around the headband of the Shure srh 940? Not the prettiest on the head but awesome cans for mixing - awesome accuracy.

the shure are great headphones, but they tend to break in the headband.
this also happened to me after a few months from the purchase.
I had them repaired under warranty and then I decided to reinforce the headband with cotton gauze and tape

Yes, the infamous cracked headband. Even before it breaks, it tends to produce cracking sound. I am very careful but am sure it will break one day. So much wish it was a metal headband or there’s an after market one that can swap it out with.

the headphones are really good, but the materials they are built with … it’s a real shame.
you can put all the attention you can, but if they have to break they break.

@kuma, you are a brave man! Grado doesn’t have the sturdiest headband or hard-wearing ear cups. I hope no animal or headphones were harmed in this photoshoot. :fearful:

I have the very same. Great aren’t they

Yeah, I really enjoy listening to them.

I had several pairs of Focal Spirit Professional that did this. Sent them back and got credit for purchasing something else. The sound of the Focal’s I really liked but it has put me off their other headphones and I went for some Meze 99 Classics instead, partly because they had a metal headband and looked far more durable.

good headphones the meze.
it’s a pity that some headphone manufacturers don’t care about their quality …
At low price beyerdynamic offers great quality, then the sound may like it or not

This is my late night seduction… works every time

Would appreciate any advice:-

I am thinking of getting Sennheiser HD 660s for use with my Uniti Atom (into the headphone socket). Would they be a good match?

I currently use B&W P5 wired headphones into the Atom or into my iPhone (via an AQ Dragonfly red).

Would the 660s be much of a step up from the P5?

Many thanks guys.

Peter

late to the conversation here, but I have recently bought an RME ADI-2. It’s good, and highly configurable, but I may send it back. Why? Well, whilst it’s better than my Topping DX3 Pro, it’s not vastly better, despite being 6x the price.

For me the problem is that, despite it being highly configurable, I run it fed by a Raspberry Pi running Roopieee, which is fine, but means that I can do all the DSPing I want in Roon so I’m not making any use of the complexity of the ADI-2. The other issue is that I can’t use it just as a headphone amp when driven by my better DAC, and so it doesn’t double up as a main listening system augmentation either.

So yes it’s good - clear, powerful enough, and good dynamics. But is it great value for money - not so sure given my current setup…

HTH.

Warming up a Sonore ultraRendu with my portable system (Sony 1Z, Shure SE846) before moving it to my main headphone system.

Hi Peter,
I don’t know the HD660 nor the P5s. I have not had the pleasure to get my hands on an Atom either. However, how good is the Atom’s headphone out? You may want to borrow a dedicated headphone amplifier to see if that improves matters before buying different headphones. I have good experience with Graham Slee and Lehman. It does require more cabling to connect it all, and cables introduce more variables. Lot of fun!

@LSLFAN I bought a pair of HD 660s and after the initial burn in have come to like them a lot. So I can only vouch for the phones…hope that helps a bit!

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply, much appreciated. I took the plunge and they should be here tomorrow so fingers crossed.

Peter
