Show us your headphones

Hi @Simon-in-Suffolk, in your experience would you say this still holds true?
I’m considering some headphones (Empyreans are in the mix) and would appreciate your thought on the amp end. My system is available in my bio.

Yes the DAVE and TT2 are excellent into the Empyreans… the TT2 has a touch more slam when in hi gain mode… perhaps helped with its headphone amp over DAVE.

I have a pre-Black Friday pair of Beyerdynamic Amiron Home winging their way to me - if you’re in the States, killer deal at newegg for $319 for new.

Question is: I’ll be using these primarily for the TV upstairs in the bedroom (comfort was key and I guess these Amirons have it) - and I’m looking for a small headphone amp. The Schiit Magni is at the top of the list, but will I need a DAC/HP integrated amp model for coming out of the 10 year old Bravia (via RCA)? Any cheap (sub $100) recs?

I do wish the Muso in the bedroom had a HP out as well…

@charlesphoto I use my Amirons (the most comfortable headphone I have ever tried) with a Beyerdynamic A20 headphone amp. A brilliant match and a beautifully-built little unit. A bit above your budget but you might be able to pick up a Black Friday deal…?

Enjoying them on the V1 immensely. And for open cans they seem to leak very little noise, and little to no microphony on the extra long cable supplied (I need that length). No headphones are truly comfortable for me, but these are definitely a cut above the ones I’ve tried. For now with the TV in the bedroom going to just try straight out from the RCA’s with an adapter coming and then cross the headphone amp dilemma if need be. The A20 is a bit rich for me at the moment (almost the cost of the Synology NAS I’m picking up for my biz needs). They sound a bit weedy on the office UQ - no idea if I can run a separate headphone amp or not, haven’t quite figured out how or if that would work.

I also have a the BeyerDynamic Amirons, but playing through a Headline 2 and a Hicap DR. I really enjoy their sound and comfort. Not the cheapest solution, but it does sound very good.

Not quite as esoteric as most on here but still very nice for holiday use which is why I bought them. They are pretty impressive through the Hugo TT 2/M Scaler

I’m not a big headphone user but also bought a pair of these and have been very impressed with them.

There’s a lot of love for Mezzes classic 99 on this forum… rightly so…I love mine…probably one of the best at the price point.

Anyone done a comparison of Meze 99 neo vs classic? How do the cheaper neos compare?

I know of some that tried both and preferred the classics as the Neos have even more of the low-end which they found too much. from what I have read they both have the Meze signature just tuned slightly differently and and more contemporary looking than the classic wood and retro feel of the classics. As the Classics are far from bass shy I think the Neos might be too much and likely appeal to more bass heavy contemporary music. I preferred the wood finish as they just look the business’s and also sound like them to. They are still my most used headphone.

Decided to set up a small computer listening rig.

My old Senn Momentums through Ifi Dac.
Very surprised… lovely sound.

Are using the Ifi Power X psu with the Zen. I read that though it doesn’t improve the DAC side of things which is fine powered through the USB socket that it does improve the headphone amp.

Bob, as is…no psu.

Brilliant little DAC

My little system consisting of the HD800s, powered by a Topping A90 headphone amp, source is a Devialet 220Pro running Roon.

The set up always sounded good, and there was a very significant improvement after I made some parametric EQ adjustment in Roon following instructions from ASR.
